My daughter and I just returned from a wonderful 2 week stay at Royalton Hicacos.We have enjoyed this resort many times.We were greeted warmly by the staff. We have visited many different resorts, but the staff at this resort surpasses them all. The management, front desk, bell boys, waiters, cooks , cleaners, gardeners, security, beach and pool attendants, maids and butlers all did a wonderful job but there are too many to mention by name. Eileen our butler in DC checked often to see if everything was ok. Buffet food was adequate with a good variety. Buffet breakfast was excellent. The specialty restaurants were good with professional service. We were often returning guests so we were treated to special lobster dinners. Rodney at the piano bar served me a great cappuccino every evening. The lobby bar also served great coffees and cappuccinos. The gardens are beautiful. The beach is awesome . Plenty of chairs on the main and the Dc beach. Always someone to help you get seated. The gardeners often make special birds , roses etc from plants and present them to you. Thank you to others who brought us special Cuban treats and fruits. The Wifi may be spotty at times. The town of Varadero can be accessed from the hotel by taxi or the nearby hop on bus. Excursions can be booked from the hotel. Evening entertainment is good. My favourite was The Opera. Water Ballet was also special. There are excellent musicians in many areas of the resort. Piano players were in the Jazz bar and the The Pearl restaurant. Other activities were at the pool and the beach. Maybe a little more lighting on some of the pathways at night would be great. Special shout out to friends Anelys, Jose Debeso, and Thais. There are many other special friends at this resort. My daughter has posted pictures of many of them on the fans of Royalton Hicacos Facebook page. A note to other guests there are showers by the pool. Rinse off the sand from the beach before getting into the pool to help keep the pool clean for everyone.

“Excellent resort in Varadero”

Great stay at the Royalton Hicacos, our check in was a bit caotic mainly due to a bus arriving from a recently arrived flight (we had come from Havana). but we were shown where the bar and restaurants were so had lunch and drinks. Our rooms were not avail able till 4pm. Hotel buildings and grounds were clean and tidy but overall more maintenance would be good. Room was very spacious, a couple of things would be welcomed, tea a d coffee making facilities and more drinks in the fridge. Safe worked well. We didn't visit the buffet as we had breakfast at the beach restaurant every day with mimosas (though no OJ but other juices), limited food choices but overall very good. There are shortages but not too bad, Always had fruits, omelette and pastries available. Lunchtime we used the bistro or beach restaurant both very good for a quick lunch. Evenings we managed to always get into one of the restaurants but a bit challenging as Diamond Club can reserve so it limits availability for everyone else. We liked the Tex Mex best but all were good. Drink availability at the bars was variable but taking into account the country and sanctions it was good as long as you showed flexability, I always managed to get beer and rum! The beach is one of the best anywhere, no seaweed and very very clean (unlike we found in Cancun) Sea is clear and very blue, the beach gently slopes into the sea. You can walk a long way along the beach in both directions. We preferred the beach to the pool, great waiter service and small beach bar as well as the restaurant. I would reserve sunbeds and umbrellas quite early as by 10.00 most are gone. Pool table and table tennis near pool but need replacing. Beach and poolside entertainment could be better. Overall a great resort with excellent staff, take lots of USD for tips as the staff need it for a better life.

“A Beautiful Getaway!”

We were fortunate to stay in a renovated room at the Royalton. It was clean, spacious and modern. The mattress was firm and the pillows were perfect. Paying the extra for Diamond Club allowed us to have reservations at the different restaurants. We especially enjoyed the Tex Mex, Caribbean and Italian for the food and the Seafood Grill for views. Our maid, Yailini went above and beyond to make our trip special. She made beautiful towel displays and cleaned our room so well. She always made sure we were stocked with bottled water and checked in on us. Our butlers, Nelly and Matilde were very helpful and arranged a driver and guide to take us to Havana for the day. The guide was knowledgeable, friendly and fun. Visiting Havana this way was well worth the money. The beautiful water, white sandy beach and the staff throughout the entire resort are what make this place so special.
