The Caribbean region comprises the Caribbean Sea, its islands and the surrounding coasts. The region is located southeast of the Gulf of Mexico and North America, east of Central America, and northern South America and sits in the line of several major shipping routes with the Panama Canal connecting the western Caribbean Sea with the Pacific Ocean. There are several embarkation ports for Caribbean cruises: Fort Lauderdale and Miami, San Juan in Puerto Rico, New York, Baltimore, Cape Liberty in New Jersey or Cozumel Island, in Mexico.
