We had a bit of a hiccup when we got to our room, we had wasps living on our balcony. When we called reception they immediately came to our room & upgraded our room to a lovely suite with beautiful views. Shortly after staff came up with a bottle of champagne for us to enjoy! They have been absolutely brilliant and accommodating! Beautiful views of the bay and very helpful staff.

“Great location by a nice beach”

First thing, you need a car for this hotel, do not think about public transport or walking from the old town, you'd need 40 mins each way. If you do have a car, then this hotel is worth considering for a couple of reasons. 1) The beach opposite is large and the sand is lovely and soft. 2) The rooms are spacious - go for one of the ones with a seaview 3) We found the room to be good value for money (although due to booking system errors, we missed out on the cheapest option) 4) The staff at reception were very helpful - we arrived late and did not have any issues at check-in. One strange thing though is that you are given the key and the air-con remote - never seen that before myself. Now a few points to bear in mind. This IS an old hotel and really could do with a makeover across the board. In the room, don't be surprised to find the bed a bit too soft, the decor a little dated and cracks etc in the tiles. If you want the location and don't mind paying more, there is a much newer hotel a little down the road with better/newer on-site facilities but the price is much higher.

This is a very basic hotel but set in a beautiful location , to get to the beach opposite you do have to cross a sometime busier road , but worth it , long empty beaches . I went off season , when booking in asked at reception ( from the most unfriendly member of staff that I think could be found in the Algarve ) if any sea view rooms were available , which I'd pay for , to be quoted a room rate per night more than I paid for the whole time I was meant to be there ! The room allocated was meant to have a partial sea view , of course that was probably in a previous life ! It was the view of buildings opposite ! Though I did go back two days later to reception desk to ask if any sea view rooms has become available , surprised that there was and a really pleasant member of staff quoted me a reasonable price , which instead of checking out I stayed for a further 7 days , in a lovely room . Nearby Alvar and Lagos Town off season are both wonderful places to totally chill . Both have back street restaurants that are outstanding and value for money , I had grilled fish that knew my name it was so fresh ! A car is pretty essential , though if planning on going out ,the local ubar service was first class . With the exception of the initial receptionist , the staff at the Dom Pedro Lagos were amazingly professional , but in a friendly though not patronising way . If staying there I'd advise on taking the breakfast option, which was very basic , but was fine & good value. ( Perhaps they should add tomatoes and bananas to compliment the processed meat and cheese options . ) The rooms were spotless , cleaned every day , with real attention to detail . Because of the location the owners of the Dom Pedro Group could make this Lagos Dom Pedro , - if renovated - one of the jewels of their brand and the Algarve . It really has the potential .
