This hotel must be very popular because there were so many guests this weekend! Rooms were fine and quiet, bathrooms small but functional. bedes were very fine. Reception quick and helpsome. Breakfast was indeed very good with all you could wish. Surely we recommend this hotel.

This was a return visit, after seven years. Once again, this hotel seemed to offer the best value for money for a decent central base in Oslo (although prices have risen notably in the interim). I felt like the bedrooms must have had a refurb since my last stay - mine seemed more welcoming and modern than the last time. I had a good night's sleep and was very comfortable. Breakfast was really decent - a good spread and gluten free options available. The staff were really nice, and the receptionist particularly helpful. While it's not bang-on central, it's a fairly straightforward walk from central station and also close to the King's Palace - the location certainly worked for me.

I spent two nights at Scandic St. Olavs plass in November 2025 during a company conference and left with mixed feelings. Overall, I’d rate the stay 3 out of 5: functional and fairly priced, but hectic and a bit too basic for anything beyond a simple city stay. The location is central enough for exploring Oslo, in a quiet neighborhood just off the city center. However, if you arrive by train from the airport, it’s a fairly long walk from Oslo Central Station, especially with luggage. On the plus side, there’s convenient basement parking directly under the hotel. My room, no. 217, had classic Scandic-style décor – as you can see in my photos – a bit worn around the edges but kept clean. The bathroom was simple, yet the underfloor heating worked well and made mornings more pleasant. The bed was comfortable, and despite being on the second floor, there was surprisingly little street noise. Check-in was fast and efficient, handled by a Norwegian-speaking receptionist who got me to my room in minutes. The lobby area itself feels cramped, though, and quickly becomes congested when groups arrive. Our conference room, by contrast, was a strong point: spacious, with good ventilation that held up even after a long day with many people in the room. Food and beverage were the biggest disappointment. Lunch was chaotic and crowded, with too many guests for a limited selection of hot and cold dishes, all presented in a very basic way. It felt more like a canteen than a conference hotel. Breakfast offered a better and broader spread, closer to what I’d expect from Scandic. The bar in the evening was a brighter note – a pleasant place to unwind with friendly, efficient service. • What could be improved – Better organisation and replenishment of the lunch buffet, with a wider selection and more thoughtful presentation. – Clearer information at check-in, including Wi-Fi details and practical guidance for conference guests. – Easing the bottlenecks in the lobby, perhaps by rethinking the layout or adding more space for groups. • Final verdict: With relatively affordable rooms and a decent central location, Scandic St. Olavs plass is an OK choice for a straightforward overnight or a work event, but not a place I’d choose for a special stay in Oslo. If you go • Avoid the smallest rooms – ask for an outward-facing room on an upper floor with windows that open. • Plan to eat lunch elsewhere on busy conference days and use the bar later for a more relaxed experience.
