We’ve been twice now to the Palace in Boa Vista - it’s amazing. The hotel is spotless, beautiful set up and lovely to walk around. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food for every meal was hot, good choices and easy to get a table. Evening entertainment gave us something to do after evening meal, the entertainers give it their all. Waiters always around for more drinks. I think Boa Vista has ruined us for all other holidays!

Recently returned from our 11-day holiday here. This was our 4th time in Cape Verde but our first stay in Palace. A few weeks before arriving I emailed the hotel to ask for a room on Ground Floor with a beautiful view, but if a room on top floor was needed for a beautiful view we would be more than happy to accept. So when we arrived we were given : an accessible room on Ground Floor and our view? The emergency exit of the spa. When returned to reception I was told they had no other room available now and asked me to come back one day later. We did this and happily accepted our new room on the top floor with a wonderful sea view. Also having said that the hotel is not aware of guests arriving earlier than the average because they take a taxi, so no welcome drinks for us. For us not a problem but would have been a lovely welcoming gesture. The room was spacious and clean, even the shower had a good pressure and maintained warm. Yet during our 11 days there our bedsheets were never changed during our stay. The quality and the temperature of the food of the main restaurant was good. However it did became repetitive; every evening they served changing cold starters but the only ones changed were the fish dishes. The meat and vegetarian were basically the same. For lunch it was the same every day. Taco’s and burrito’s were served 8 days in a row. We had no problem with booking the speciality restaurants and tried both Krystal and Mitsuki. Both were excellent, however I would recommend to change Krystal in an adults-only restaurant. The service in the main restaurant is also very good. They ensure your glass is not empty and a special shout out to Ethel and Imanuel for remembering our drinks every day. The same applies to the people working in the Muscat bar. There is table service and many of the people working there remembered your drink too and would have a little chat if time permitted. We never had to wake up early to find beds around the pool, there was always enough available during the whole day. The activity pool is together with a swim-up bar where kids are not allowed, which happens all the time. There are not a lot of public restrooms and the ones that were there were dirty all the time. Even when the cleaning staff was standing outside the restrooms it remained dirty. We have been to other hotels in Cape Verde where it was kept clean continiously. We didn’t expect this from a Palace.. This hotel is definately a palace for children. A lot of activiteit are for kids only. Also, many parents forget they are still responsible for their children when on holiday. I lost count on how many times animation team had to tell kids to stay behind the mat with crazy games while the parents stood next to them. Clearly it is also normal that children can watch IPads or play games with the volume out loud in restaurants. Something the hotel management should be aware of too. We enjoyed our stay here but expected more from a Palace. Also this hotel would be so much better if it would be an adults- only hotel in my point of view. Or at least with a adults- only pool and restaurant.

Staff are so welcoming and friendly and the hotel is spotlessly clean. We are big foodies and found the buffet nice enough (lovely salads and fish) but more limited and basic in other areas, especially compared to Ikos and Rixos hotels. We only tried the Mitsuki a la carte but found it to be quite poor (overly sauced noodles and odd sushi without any ginger or wasabi) so we didn’t book another. The sports bar is a good idea for football fans- my son went in to watch a couple of games, but unfortunately it is smelly in there! The live music throughout the day is lovely, so and the evening entertainment is good. There is not enough for teens to do by day. They weren’t allowed to join darts or aqua. WaterpArk isa nice addition for half hour here and there. No queues at all (probably cos was too cold to properly enjoy, due to a windy weather week). Overall, I’m glad we came. I would recommend to others, but personally would not return.

“Inappropriate Security Guard”

We visited as a family at the end of the Easter holidays. The hotel is generally faultless. The grounds were spotlessly clean, the quality of the food was excellent and the rooms were very spacious. It’s a very nice hotel. However, we did have an incident with a member of staff that left us quite shaken. We cannot fault how the hotel dealt with the incident, but it should not have happened in the first place. It did put a damper on what was otherwise a very enjoyable holiday. My wife and daughter (5 years old) were walking back to our room from a day at the swimming pool. I was changing the towels so, unfortunately, was not with them. They were approached by one of the hotel security guards who took my daughter’s wrist and said “come with me and not mummy”. He then proceeded with to walk and talk with them for several minutes, continuing to hold onto my daughters wrist. My wife was in a silent state of panic, not knowing what to do or what to say. She felt very vulnerable as they were both alone in their swimming costumes being followed by a man they had not previously met. When they needed to turn a different direction, by wife tried to end the conversation. The security guard then said “no come with me”. It was only after my daughter said a firm “no” that he let go of his grip and went his separate ways. When I found out about this incident I immediately went to reception and asked to speak with the manager. The manager was very shocked. I received an email first thing the following morning with sincere apologies advising that the security guard had been suspended from duty pending an investigation. Speaking to our TUI rep that morning, I understand that the security guard was “only joking”. Although, taking a child by the wrist, walking her for several minutes and saying “come with me and not mummy” is definitely inline with what someone trying to abduct a child would say and do. Only he knows his true intentions, but it left us all very shaken. I cannot fault the way and promptness that the hotel positively dealt with the incident, but the truth is, it should not have happened on hotel grounds by a member of their staff in the first place. All staff, but in particular security, are employees that you should feel safe around. Every other staff member that we came into contact with was lovely, polite and friendly.
