The Lomas del Volcan was a lovely hotel and our best in Costa Rica. When I contacted them in advance by WhatsApp with a question they replied within a minute. Check-in was simple for our group of 24. We had a lovely double bungalow (up a very steep hill though). The outside had a couch to sit on, and we had two comfortable beds, a desk and chair inside as well as a safe in the closet. The bathroom was huge with a massive oversized walk in shower. We found the staff outstanding. At the front desk they helped us book a private tour to see the Maleku indigenous people. The bar staff were great and we had three good dinners (two in the dining room and one in the bar). The breakfast buffet is massive and the omelet staff is excellent.

“Beautiful place to stay”

Beautiful hotel, large rooms, gorgeous surroundings, lovely pool area and pool was lovely and warm with a swim up bar. Staff very friendly and food in the restaurant was very good. Few minutes drive from the main town which had some nice restaurants.

Long trip from Tortuguero to La Fortuna. Well worth the wait as our room was fabulous! Built on stilts in the forest it was large and very comfortable. A huge bed, large bathroom, lots of storage space, fridge, kettle, safe etc. A balcony with seating at the front of the room with a raised balcony and double spa bath at the rear of our deluxe bungalow. All that we would need for our three day stay. Breakfast and dinner were taken in an airy glass enclosed restaurant where the wildlife kept us amused. Breakfasts were extensive with egg station and dinner was a la carte and very good. There was also an outdoor bar and restaurant just beside reception. This hotel is some way outside La Fortuna. Whilst there we did take a walking tour of the Volcano and again enjoyed the wild life. A good three nights stay here.

“Beautiful Property, Very Relaxing”

It’s a magnificent resort. It’s large but nicely spread out with individual bungalows. The gardens are beautiful with a huge variety of tropical plants. And then there is the view of the volcano close by. Every bungalow has a view of the volcano from one of two balconies. Everything is for the view of the volcano. The bungalows are large with a huge bathroom. The decor is all in dark timber which makes the room pretty dark. There is a big comfortable bed & great aircon. And there is strong wifi throughout the resort. The pool area is great with a very large pool and spa & a drinks bar. Breakfast was included and is extensive with hot & cold dishes including an omelette station. The dining room has very high ceilings & floor to ceiling glass looking towards the volcano. The dinner meals here are also excellent but pricey. Near the pool is a drinks & snack bar as well for something quick & light. If you want to go down to the town it’s too far to walk in the humidity but fine if you have a car or a short uber ride. There are a couple of negatives. The bungalows are in groups from the 100’s to the 600’s. The lower numbers are closest to reception. The higher numbers particularly the 600’s which is where I was is a steep climb up the road to get there. However reception will organise a buggy to take you to your bungalow if requested. The other annoying issue is the number of signs everywhere saying what you can & cannot do both around the resort & in your bungalow. It’s not a big thing but I found it annoying. And there are some strange design issues with the bungalow doors deliberately with gaps for ventilation, thus bugs getting in. There is also a TV in the room which I am not sure why as there is not much to watch although you can connect to streaming services on it. But as the wifi is so good I found it easier to connect via my personal devices. There are also plenty of tours on offer from the hotel although they are pretty pricey. The staff are great, friendly & helpful. But nearly all local Costa Ricans are like that. A few days here is delightfully.
