Portasol is a fantastic place located in between Manuel Antonio and Dominical, is a hidden gem in the central pacific of Costa Rica. Stunning waterfalls on site, great service and delicious traditional breakfast. If you want to get deep in the jungle or seek for a getaway, this is the right place.

I stayed in the Casa Monos Locos. The house is beautiful and fully equipt, the only thing you need to bring is your food, somebody to cook it (or you cook it on your own) and lots of bug repellent (when we stayed, me and my family were almost eaten alive). You definitely need to bring a 4x4 as the roads, though in good condition, are very steep and are not paved (they are built with ballast/gravel) and an fwd car won't have a nice time climbing. Talking about what to do when you are there, well, in fact, there are many options, there is a river right across the road, in fact, it can be heard from the house, which was a plus for me as it helped relax even more. There are multiple beaches around and 2 different national parks. There are canopy tours, ATV tours, horseback tours, on the beaches close you can rent a jet ski, etc. Or just relax in the house with your family/friends. The pool is not child-friendly as it is too deep (unless they are good swimmers), I am 6'3" and the water covered me until around my shoulders. Though the pool is very good looking and well maintained. The automatic starter was not working on the grill, so I had to go buy a lighter or matches, I thought I would drive to the closest supermarket (which is around 15 minutes away), but on the road, I found a small "pulperia" (which is a super small convenience store) and bought matches, after that it was all good. The grill was in good working order. The rooms and bathrooms were clean and smelled good. If you are planning to go relax and wake up as late as you want, you can definitely do so, as the window shades won't let too much sunlight in. The staff was friendly and helpful, they offered to help carry my bags and I told them I could do it on my own. The house also has a fully equipped laundry room, it even has soap and all the stuff you will need to do your laundry, they also offer body and hand soap, but you may consider bringing your favorite body lotion/soap as the ones offered are not too good. They have decent WIFI, it is actually quite amazing to even get a connection considering how deep into the forest we were. In general, my experience was very good and I will definitely rent the house again in the future. I am not rating the service excellent as I called them a few times because the power went out for around 30 minutes and I was thinking a breaker was tripped (though I was not even using any device that would trip a breaker) and they did not answer, Happily, the power came back on its own later. Besides that, everything was excellent.

Stayed for one week. On the upside it was away from people and somewhat remote. There was a beautiful small pool which was river fed, clean and cool. The staff was amazing, especially Diego. Breakfasts were excellent. On the downside there was no AC, it is in the jungle so it cooled down at night, but still a bit warm for me sleeping. The wifi was basically useless, the road up is very rough, especially the last 100 yards, which was steep and really bad for our rental car. Close to Playa Matapalo which was the nicest beach in the area imho.
