Very friendly and helpful owner. Within minutes of arriving Ana had WhatsApped me all the info I needed for my mini break. Lovely spacious, clean well kitted out room. Close to bus stops. Of note is that they invested in a proper TV satellite system. I travel the world and it’s rare to have a watchable news channel in English, but not only was there a good connection, it included Prime and Netflix. As a solo traveller who tends to have a snack in the room at night rather than eat out, this was a real bonus - especially as my laptop had been frazzled at the airport. Everything you needed for a holiday apartment. I won’t be back Ana because I go to different places each trip - but I can’t recommend you high enough. Thanks for everything.

I always read reviews before booking places and I really hope this encourages people to stay at California Apartments: - Amazing location between the beach, lovely restaurants and bars and the other direction is the old town. This allows everything to be easily reached but give you some quieter time in the middle if you wish. - Everything accessible by excellent bus system and only 50 yards from the apartments - the apartments are spotlessly clean on arrival and throughout your stay by the owners, their daughter and her amazing friend (trustworthy, friendly and a great job) - Beautiful view from the pool area (sun loungers were always available) - Maria the host is the most amazing person. She gives you the best recommendations during your stay for restaurants and places to visit (please listen to her she knows her stuff and you won’t be disappointed!) She is always available and can’t do enough for you during your stay to make it a relaxing, enjoyable holiday with a family feel. My friend and I have never felt so welcome anywhere. - Small food shops nearby, bakery to the right, wine shop downstairs and restaurant across the road (perfect!) - Only 30mins ish from airport and transfer available if you wish I could say so much about this holiday but most of all stay here and you won’t be disappointed. I am already planning to book direct through Maria (California Apartments) next year. Thank you so much for leaving a special memory for us both Maria, you treat every guest so well and I hope more people can enjoy like we did.

“Disappointing stay”

We had read so many amazing reviews of this place we were looking forward to staying here but to be honest it didn't match up with the hype. We were greeted by Ana and she sent us some links to help us with the area but it was nothing more than any decent host would do and after the initial welcome she barely spoke to us. The apartments are modern but small and not that well laid out. We had a room overlooking the pool which felt a little cramped and could have easily done without the easy chairs at the end of the bed. The Kitchen was small with only one socket which meant you had to spread the appliances around the room if you were using more than one at a time which was odd for a modern building. Also there's only one socket at your bedside which means you either charge your phone or have a bedside light not both, again very odd for something purpose built as a guest room. They did provide Tea and Coffee which was nice though. The bathroom again was small but perfectly OK. There are no balconies on the rooms to the rear but there is a shared terrace that you can use , we found it OK as there was no-one else using them but it could be uncomfortable if you had to share with strangers. The rooms are quite noisy as you hear every door open/close and footsteps in the rooms, also the noise from the road can be quite loud (wouldn't want to have been in a room overlooking the road). The pool area is OK with a number of loungers and a decent pool but not the cleanest and it did have quite an unpleasant smell (best to shower after you get out as well as before you get in). Also there is no public WC near the pool which means you have to go back to your room if you need the toilet which is not great as the floor is tiled and does become slippery when wet. Don't understand why there isn't one as there's loads of space to do it, would be a massive improvement if they did. Location wise it is on a very busy main road but that does make it quite convenient for the bus , both Square and Peyton stops are only a short walk away. Sunset beach is only 25 minutes walk away but its not the nicest beach and the old town is a good 45 minute walk away. It is worth doing it at least once as the views once you pass the Hotel Bellevue are stunning , the walk back though is uphill so as the bus is only 2.5 Euros PP its the easier option. You can also walk to the Port from here in 20 minutes with a shortcut down the the side of the Belvedere but be warned the steps coming back are a definite leg burner. There is a minmarket nearby along with a couple of bakeries, loads of hairdressers and even a weed dispensary.
