A Wonderful Family Holiday at Iberostar Dominicana We stayed at Iberostar Dominicana for 6 nights with our two adult sons, booking three rooms in total, and we had a truly wonderful holiday. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the scale and beauty of the resort. The Iberostar complex is incredibly grand, consisting of five hotels: Joia, Coral Level, Iberostar Selection Bávaro, Iberostar Punta Cana, and Iberostar Dominicana. We chose Iberostar Dominicana because, although it was one of the more affordable options, it offered the most convenient central location. As I have some mobility limitations, this proved to be an excellent decision. Many of the facilities we used most were located nearby, including the lively pool area, La Marimba BBQ restaurant, the Steak House, casino, shopping plaza, Clinic Assist medical centre, American and Mexican restaurants, photo shop, wedding planning services and Star Camp children's club. Being so centrally located made our stay much more comfortable and enjoyable. Check-In Our holiday got off to a fantastic start thanks to the wonderful welcome we received. Yelitza greeted us with such warmth and enthusiasm. Her smile was infectious, and she genuinely made us feel happy to be there. She was working alongside Sheilif, who was equally friendly and took the time to explain the layout of the large resort, which was very helpful. We were then introduced to Caroline, who was absolutely exceptional. From the moment we met her, she made us feel incredibly welcome and at ease. She provided useful information about the resort and offered thoughtful suggestions to help make our stay as comfortable as possible. Her professionalism, kindness and genuine care reassured me immediately that we had chosen the right resort for our holiday. We were then escorted to our rooms by a polite gentleman in a golf buggy, which was greatly appreciated after our journey. Rooms Our rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable, with high ceilings and everything we needed for our stay. We were located on the third floor (rooms 4357, 4331 and 4332) and were pleased to have lift access nearby. Housekeeping maintained the rooms to a very high standard throughout our stay. As someone with dust mite allergies, I was particularly impressed with the cleanliness and quality of the air conditioning. I often struggle in hotels when air conditioning systems are not properly maintained, but here I experienced no issues at all. The minibar was stocked daily with water, soft drinks, fruit juice and beer, and we appreciated the large refillable water stations located near the lifts. Entertainment and Animation Team The entertainment team deserves special recognition. Throughout the day and evening, they worked tirelessly to create a fun and welcoming atmosphere. They were friendly, energetic and always interacting positively with guests. We particularly enjoyed the Michael Jackson production, which was surprisingly impressive, as well as Dominicana Night with its talented live dancers. The White Party on the beach was another highlight and created a fantastic atmosphere. Food and Dining One of the pleasant surprises of our stay was the quality of the food. At first glance, the buffet did not immediately appear as elaborate as some other five-star resorts we have visited, but appearances can be deceiving. The food was consistently tasty, fresh and varied, with plenty of choice each day. We especially enjoyed lunch at La Marimba and often preferred the buffet restaurants for dinner because of the variety available. A small tip for future guests: try to dine before 8:00 pm if possible, as restaurants become noticeably busier afterwards when guests are heading to the evening shows. The coffee throughout the resort was excellent, and the Café Café team always greeted us with a smile. The buffet staff were particularly friendly, and we enjoyed practising the few Spanish phrases we had learned before travelling. Everyone seemed to genuinely appreciate the effort, regardless of how imperfect our Spanish was. Wi-Fi The Wi-Fi was excellent throughout the resort, including at the beach. My youngest son is an avid gamer and brought his Steam Deck with him. He was delighted with the connection quality and had no issues staying connected during our stay. Bars and Drinks There was never a shortage of places to enjoy a drink, with bars conveniently located throughout the resort. Our favourite was the lobby bar near the theatre. Micha and Johnny P. were fantastic and always made us feel welcome. We would also like to thank the wonderful lady with the red braids at the beach bar, who consistently made some of the best cocktails we enjoyed during our holiday. Beach and Pool The beach and pool areas were absolutely stunning. The beach looked like something from a postcard, and we were impressed by how well maintained both areas were. Staff were constantly working throughout the day to keep everything clean and welcoming. The beautiful tropical grounds were one of our favourite parts of the resort. The gardeners and grounds team worked incredibly hard to keep everything looking immaculate, and their efforts certainly did not go unnoticed. One of my personal highlights was looking forward each day to receiving a fresh coconut from the gardening staff. It became a lovely part of my daily routine and was a wonderful example of the warmth and kindness shown by the team throughout our stay. Small gestures like this helped make our holiday feel extra special and created memories we will cherish long after returning home. Clinic Assist Medical Centre One experience that deserves special mention was the outstanding care I received from Clinic Assist. Unfortunately, I developed an eye problem shortly after arriving. What initially appeared to be minor irritation gradually worsened, and after 48 hours I sought medical advice. The team at Clinic Assist were exceptional. They assessed me quickly and arranged for me to be transferred to a local specialist for further examination. It turned out I was developing an infection, so seeking treatment was absolutely the right decision. I cannot thank the medical team enough for their professionalism, kindness and efficiency. Their care gave me tremendous peace of mind while abroad, and they are a true credit to the resort. One Small Note The only aspect of our stay that we would probably decline in future was the invitation to a "VIP Breakfast" presentation about luxury hotel upgrades. While some guests may find it interesting, it felt quite similar to a timeshare-style sales presentation and lasted considerably longer than expected (approximately 10:00 am to 1:30 pm). It is entirely optional, and my advice would be to attend only if you have a genuine interest in upgrade programmes. Final Thoughts Overall, we had a fantastic holiday and thoroughly enjoyed our time at Iberostar Dominicana. The beautiful grounds, excellent location, friendly staff, outstanding entertainment, comfortable rooms and exceptional customer service combined to create a memorable family holiday. Most importantly, every member of staff we encountered made us feel genuinely welcome. Their kindness, warmth and dedication are what truly set this resort apart. A special thank you to Yelitza, Sheilif, Caroline, the animation team, the Café Café staff, Micha and Johnny P., the beach bar team, the gardeners and grounds staff, housekeeping, and the wonderful professionals at Clinic Assist.
