With a few tweaks and improvements to the food, this could be a top destination. Staff was wonderful, views were memorable.

We stayed at TRS Turquesa for 7 nights in mid-May for a long-overdue couples’ leisure trip to decompress, and overall it was a great vacation. I would rate the trip a 10/10, with a few specific caveats that future guests should know about. For context, we have stayed at TRS Yucatan before, so we came in with some expectations for the TRS brand. Turquesa met those expectations overall, but I would describe the comparison as “equal-ish tradeoffs” rather than one being clearly better than the other. Turquesa has the better beach and better entertainment. Yucatan has newer/nicer rooms, a more premium overall feel, stronger English communication, better layout/cart reliability, and better wildlife. That said, we would absolutely consider returning to Turquesa, even though Yucatan still has some advantages. We stayed in a standard pool-view room on the second floor in building 57xx. The room was clean, comfortable, and well kept. The bed had a memory foam/pillow-top feel and was very comfortable, and the pillow menu was a great touch — especially the cervical pillow. The AC was excellent. I had seen older reviews criticizing the AC, but ours worked almost too well after we got a bit sunburned. There were a few cosmetic or functional annoyances, like bathroom swing door hinges that seemed poorly installed, limited dresser/storage space, and a heavy/unwieldy three-door closet, but none of that meaningfully took away from the stay. Cleanliness across the resort was generally great. Rooms, restaurants, public areas, pools, and the beach were all well maintained. The beach was gorgeous, with minimal sargassum, and what did appear was handled quickly. Off the immediate property to the west, there were some vendors who were a little annoying, but they accepted “no” well enough. The main pool was excellent. It was clean, refreshing, and had great service. The bartenders were fast, friendly, and even had a good system for drying out paper tips. The pool servers did a great job making the full circle before you could even finish a drink. The little “chicken pigeons” wandering around and drinking from the corner were also oddly entertaining. However, the rear pool area was a different story. The pool itself was fine, but bar service was basically nonexistent, and the bartender at the rearmost pool bar during our week was my only major service complaint of the trip. I watched a bartender handle trash and then make my drink without washing his hands — ice, garnish, fruit, everything. I reported it and never heard if there was a resolution. After that, we never went back to that pool or bar. Main pool is the move. Food was very good overall. Helios, La Boheme, and Tentazione were the standouts for us. The Indian restaurant was also good if that is your thing. The Japanese steakhouse was just okay — not unlike any other hibachi-style experience you have probably had, but with a large and somewhat disorganized line. The Japanese/Peruvian fusion restaurant was okay, though we do not eat raw food, so I do not think we can judge it completely fairly. The steakhouse setup at Helios in the evening was closed during our stay, which was a shame. We were told it could get very hot there in the evening and were advised to choose outdoor seating, but then it ended up closed anyway. Entertainment was better than expected and honestly better than what we experienced at TRS Yucatan. The live music near Helios during breakfast every other day or so was a really pleasant surprise. Evening performers in the lobby bar were great, and we even caught the Chic performers doing a show in the lobby one night. Drinks were excellent at the lobby bar and around the main pool. Service in those areas was outstanding. I do wish they had a better bourbon selection, and something like Jägermeister would be nice to have available, but overall the drink quality was very strong. The butler service was one of the highlights of the trip, and Meldy deserves a major shoutout. Use your butler for reservations, and if you can ask for Meldy, do it. He was fantastic. He helped get us into restaurants last minute, was responsive, and surprised us with things we did not even know we needed. At one point he had the room decorated with balloons and little touches that made the stay feel special. He was a huge part of why the trip felt easy and well taken care of. The app was useful, but it does not transition well between resorts. Booking reservations through the butler was much easier. One thing that would be immensely helpful would be the ability to call a cart through the app. The rooms in the rear of the resort, especially near the swim-out complexes, are a bit too spread out. The resort could definitely use a larger porter/cart staff. Around dinner time, it was often quicker to walk, and it is not exactly a short walk. Getting to dinner was manageable because the butler could call a cart, but returning from restaurants was more of an issue because you do not have that same easy option. Travel club pressure was not terrible if you tell them no immediately, but I was more annoyed by amenities being removed from regular guests. The “secret pool” being members-only now is a good example. They are clearly pushing the travel club angle hard, and it feels like that comes at the expense of regular guests. One frustrating pre-arrival issue: we booked direct with TRS very close to the travel date, including flight, and the confirmation email did not arrive in time to book the arrival transfer. TRS was not helpful and essentially told us we were out of luck, so we had to make other transfer arrangements. Honestly, the separate arrangements ended up being better anyway, but it was still a poor experience when booking direct. Overall, we had a great trip and would recommend TRS Turquesa, especially for couples looking for an adults-only beach and pool vacation with strong service, good food, and great entertainment. My biggest tips: use the butler for reservations, ask for Meldy if possible, stick with the main pool over the rear pool, request a room closer to the main areas if walking or cart availability is a concern, and shut down the travel club pitch early if you are not interested. Would we return? Yes — but TRS Yucatan still has some advantages.
