Having chosen Ferme de la Ranconniere via the internet, and coming from Australia, having stayed at this facility was amazing, the staff were beyond reproach, food served, both at breakfast and also dinner in the restaurant, were first class. Not having much French in my vocabulary, the staff were confident speaking with and explanations were excellent, especially for an Australian. Location close to everything we wished to see, Normandy beaches, Mont St-Michel Abbey, room of the highest standard and massive, value for money, cleaned everyday and exacting, noise level (no noise), service from staff 5 star, amenities, great bar, excellent breakfast area and the dining room, plenty of room and food wonderful

“A real disappointment.”

Since starting to holiday in France in the mid-1990s we've stayed at many fine hotels. Unfortunately this wasn't one of them. It has a number of good points but the bad outweigh these and are primarily centred around the staff. Rarely (on one other occasion in reality) have we encountered such an indolent, disinterested, unwilling and unenthusiastic customer-facing staff. They were unsmiling (except one young lass from housekeeping) and unwelcoming and exhibited no warmth. When asked for anything it was done with grudging indifference. When we arrived we were told our room number. We asked for directions. The receptionist (who must have been at least 45 years younger than us) grudgingly showed us the way but made no offer of assistance to carry any of our luggage. When we went to the bar and ordered a couple of drinks the barman went on filling the water carafes and did so for 15 minutes. Drinks were eye-wateringly expensive: bog-standard G&T for 19 Euros and 500ml of average beer 13 Euros. The staff in the restaurant where we ate on one night (see separate review) operated at a glacial speed. Another couple waited an hour for their starter. But it's not all bad. The hotel has character and charm and being surrounded on all sides with a sturdy wall had solitude, peace and quiet. The rooms (well, ours) was of a decent size and because of the age of the place had thick walls which made it very, very quiet. Plenty of hanging and storage space, a comfortable bed and décor very much in keeping with the character and history of the place. It was very tasteful and, in its own way, elegant. The bathroom was small but had all the usual offices, including a very powerful shower. Nice towels and bathrobes but none of the fripperies normally found in hotels except one small bottle of body lotion. Given that the floors were tiled no slippers were provided which seemed strange given that robes were. Housekeeping was fine. Breakfast was fine with plenty on offer with much variety and of good quality (but no egg timer for the boiled eggs). Breakfast staff again pretty much like the rest. There are two EV charging points in the courtyard but only one type C connector. However charging is free, so a plus point there. In terms of location it's very good, allowing easy access to the north Normandy coast makes exploring the rest of the Cotentin peninsula quite straightforward. Although a 4 star hotel it was difficult to see quite why it deserved such as there was no wellness suite, no spa, no beauty salon and no pool. We were very disappointed as it could offer so much more and would, in any event, be immeasurably improved if the staffs' attitudes changed. Ours views were shared by two other couples we spoke to: the hotel displays no warmth and is rather soulless. Rather a shame really.
