St Raphael is a good place to start from if you want to explore the Cote d'Azure on a budget, with Hotel de Flore providing all that you need to get going. The front of the hotel is in amongst a street of shops and doesn't look very big, but it opens out above and to each side 'around' the neighbouring properties. The great bonus is that walking to the train or bus station is quick and easy with transport available to the 'glitzy' resorts along the coast, knowing you have a little 'bolt hole' to come back to. The rooms are perfectly adequate with most of the bathrooms having been refurbished. Ours was an ample size with a good shower, but if you're an early riser it might take a while for the hot water get through to you (when it does it's very good).There was a large enough wardrobe/cupboard for hanging space but some drawer space would have been good for all the odds and ends of smaller necessities. My suitcase spent the week flat on the floor like a deep drawer ! Housekeeping was good with rooms well serviced , with all the staff ready to help if needed. It is basically a French hotel so it helps if you try a little of your own 'school standard ' French. It is appreciated and they. in turn will try to help you. The Manageress , Sandrine is a star, keeping an eye on everything , helping, explaining and suggesting visits if you need it. The breakfast is basic but good, with cereals, yoghurt, fruit, cheese, ham, boiled eggs and breads/pastries, with fruit juices, tea and coffee. Giving star rating can be just a question of personal taste sometimes, but from the lower end of star rating to the upper end covers a whole range of attributes. It often depends on what you see as important. This hotel is within the three star range and in a quirky French style that we love. It's not the glitzy, smart upper end of the scale - but that's often just cosmetic. Flore is comfortable, convenient, friendly and good value. We would recommend it to our friends and family.

Old hotel with a shower not among the best found in my life. Not all the members of staff speak english and the reception is open only until 11 pm
