We booked this hotel through booking.com for one night since we were passing through Heraklion. Dimitris at the reception desk was very cordial. He checked us in, gave us all the necessary information about the room, WiFi and breakfast. Also, early next morning I went for a walk and on my way out I was offered me an espresso and water by the night shift person, although the kitchen was not open yet. The room was very clean. Sizewise, it was average for European standards. For operating lights, AC, etc you need to insert your room card into the slot, which many hotels do to avoid running the expensive AC while you are not in the room. The room had a small refrigerator with (free) bottled water in it and a small safe, which could hold valuables, but not laptops. We were in one of the lower floors, so we could see some blue sea in the distance but not the spectacular views other visitors experienced. The buffet breakfast (included in the price) was quite good in quality and variety. The people working in the kitchen were super polite and attentive to all our needs. There is no parking and the streets are quite small. But if you want to park your car nearby, there is a (paid) parking. Location: this hotel is in the heart of the city. You can visit on foot (5-15 min walk) most of the attractions of Heraklion: the fort in the port (Koues), St. Titus church, Loggia, St. Markus basilica (art exhibition place), Lions' square. Also, the area has plenty of food choices. There are certainly other and perhaps better hotels in the area, but this is an excellent value for money hotel.

“Great staff”

Dimitris was so friendly and helpful. He helped me out when my flight was cancelled and made me feel at ease. The hotel was lovely, with gorgeous views of the marina and it was in a very convenient location.

The location is perfect for the archaeological museum, bus station and port, but disturbed by aircraft noise. There are no noisy bars or clubs nearby. The rooms lack hanging and storage space. The location is perfect for the archaeological museum, bus station and port, but disturbed by aircraft noise. There are no noisy bars or clubs nearby. The rooms lack hanging and storage space. In the three rooms we were in on this trip, we only had a suitcase rack once and two bedside tables twice. I hate the lack of bedside lights, finding the ceiling spotlights harsh. The aircon is a bit fierce. As electricity is limited to time spent in the room, I suggest leaving windows open & curtains drawn when out. Some of the staff are excellent , others less so. We had probs with arranging a late checkout on our last night (essential for a late evening departure from the airport) though there had been no probs last year, and though we had requested it on arrival, ie two weeks before. The breakfast is OK, but would be improved by having decent coffee and proper juice. Tomatoes lose all their flavour when chilled. Yoghurt and honey were good though. There is a luggage room complete with scales, but I would be loath to store autumn coats there to be picked up on our return, the way we used to do years ago in our original Heraklion hotel. Nor do I feel the Irini would be able to retrieve the bag we left in the airport taxi, the way that was done for us in Oct 1990. That was real Cretan hospitality.!
