We booked this hotel knowing it was probably on a soft opening for the 2025 season. We arrived late evening in the dark to a bit of a pong outside reception and wondered what we’d come to . Our room was an upgrade from our booking, I had my own bathroom and was happy with the beautiful view across to the mainland . We had settled into a steady laid back vibe quicker than expected and throughly enjoyed our lazy breakfasts and time out at the adults pool on extremely comfy Sunbeds . Occasional overhead flight displays from Souda only added to our enjoyment. We meandered into the simple village of Marathi most evenings to sample the simple Greek cuisine at a couple of local tavernas… simple but delicious and very enjoyable to amble along the waterside. We encountered a small water issue into day 4 and tbh blown away by an offer of upgrade to a pool suite. This made our experience truly amazing. So chilling and relaxing. We throughly enjoyed our time at what is going to be the most amazing hotel going forward. The view Looking south toward Crete makes this a very special place, the simplicity yet fascinating design of this hotel equally is somewhere I yearn to come back to. Breakfasts were good quality with food overlooked to a very high standard by a lady …. Aggeliki!! You could so tell when she wasn’t there!! We enjoyed beautiful burrata at the Italian. Thank you 🙏. Just hope we can raise the funds to return to such a haven of rest

We had the most amazing stay at the JW Marriott Resort in Crete in October. The hotel itself is exceptional, with elegant, thoughtful design combined with natural beauty everywhere you look. And the team are absolutely brilliant, so kind and thoughtful - they went out of their way to make us feel welcome and to help with any requests. Breakfast was delicious, with excellent service and a beautiful view. We stayed in a villa, which was outstanding. Honestly one of the best weeks of my life - highly recommend!

I stayed at the JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa just one month after it opened, and it was exceptional in every way. The resort delivers true five-star luxury — from breathtaking design to flawless service. My suite offered sweeping views of the Aegean Sea, the kind that stop you in your tracks. The staff were extraordinary as they remembered my preferences, anticipated what I needed, and treated me with genuine warmth throughout my stay. The spa was a highlight, with a superb massage and facial followed by peaceful time at the serene indoor pool. Dining was also outstanding and every meal was beautifully presented and full of flavor. For a property so new, the experience was seamless and polished. JW Marriott Crete perfectly balances relaxation, luxury, and stunning views. I’ll absolutely be returning for another summer escape.

“3 stars – Stunning resort undermined by repeated issues”

The JW Marriott Crete is visually spectacular, infinity pools, sea and mountain views, and elegant design. The spa is lovely, and complimentary access to the sauna, steam room, and vitality pool is a good touch. Our junior suite was nice and comfortable, though it felt a bit small and the sofa/TV position was awkward. Breakfast offered a good selection and was nice. Service felt chaotic most mornings dirty tables were often left uncleared for long periods leading to lack of available tables and coffee orders were forgotten. Our dinner experiences were consistently disappointing over three nights: • On the first night (even with a reservation) it took 20 minutes to be seated despite empty tables. We ordered a pizza quoted at 20 minutes but it took nearly 75 minutes to arrive. Other diners waited even longer, creating a noticeably uneasy atmosphere in the restaurant. • our last night followed a similar pattern of slow, error-prone service and felt like very poor value for money. • we tried room service to avoid the restaurant chaos - they completely forgot the order and it arrived over 2 hours late (comped, but eating at 10:30 PM is not enjoyable). The food itself was acceptable but not memorable, especially given the high prices (e.g., a crawfish orzo dish at €50, €22 for a glass of non-alcoholic wine and a €177 bill with no drinks on our last evening). The hotel’s app was also poor. As a Bonvoy member I don’t expect to log in and be showed the wrong name, and it was impossible to book restaurants or room service through the app. Everything had to be handled via the front desk - These basic details show a lack of attention overall. Housekeeping was ok - The room was never left dirty, but floors weren’t always mopped and mirrors were sometimes skipped. More frustratingly, our room was right outside the housekeeping station and was regularly used as a dumping ground for other guests’ room service trays, plates, and champagne buckets. The resort is about 35/40 minutes from Chania. If excellent food and easy access to great restaurants matter to you, I’d strongly recommend staying closer to Chania. We enjoyed wonderful meals there. Overall, we will not be returning. At this luxury price point these issues should not be present. Management needs to urgently address this before it gets busier.
