“Beautiful grounds but not a 5 star hotel but good value overall”

Very pretty hotel, lovely pools although food is repetitive and does let it down slightly (although the salads and fruit were very good). As others have said the services and food on offer does make you question how the hotel got a 5* rating but considering it was very cheap we were not truly expecting a 5* experience. The grounds are really lovely (with the exception of the broken up flooring on the steep hills which is a major trip hazard and in our week long stay we saw several nasty falls and all 3 of us tripped and slipped several times). The beach is awful so we only ventured there once but on another day we got a cab to Rethymno old town and used the beach there which was a really lovely day out (46 euros return). Service is either good or a bit rude but nothing too bad.

Beautifully laid out site with multiple pools as well as private pools. Nice rooms. Very clean - as was the whole place - impeccable! Restaurant was slightly limited in choice but there were always lovely salads and crusty bread and usually chips and pasta so one shouldn’t go hungry. Dishes were constantly refreshed but be warned meal times ended very promptly! Could do with a second fizzy drinks machine as that was always busy! Also queue for drinks in the bars could be long as usually only one person serving and one collecting glasses etc). Staff were very friendly and helpful and generally lovely. Taxi to old town was €25 each way. There is a hotel shuttle (€11 return) but book in advance as we couldn’t get a space. The hotel also provide a free shuttle to the beach and beach restaurant (not in the all inclusive). We had a lovely meal there - great sunset. Not cheap but worth it. We had a lovely week and would recommend this hotel but be mindful of the transfer time, accessibility of the site (buggy available). There were no issues with bands being cut off at checkout on last day as per a previous review. A very pleasant stay!
