My wife and i just got back today from a week at Scaleta beach hotel ( JUNE 2026 ). Like a few of you, after reading the reviews i was skeptical, i even tried to change my hotel and im glad i didn't. The location is the best around for the view, every morning and every sunset i was left speechless. The only thing that is a little annoying is its a bit up hill when you get to the hotel but its worth it and honestly its not that bad. Also if you do your homework on the location you would already know its on a hill so i dont understand how people can moan about that. The staff and atmosphere was kind and friendly. They helped us with booking a car, bus times, adventures and answered every question we have. So Zero complaints about how well you will be treated there. Now the rooms. They are a bit of a let down as they are as basic as it gets lol. They come with air con, a small tv, 2 beds and a stand in shower. They are the bare minimum. No fridge, kettle or safe. However all 3 can be added to the room when you get there and at a very reasonable price. I think it some thing like 8 euros. But at the end of the day its just a place to rest your head and enjoy the adults only part of the holiday lol. What else do you really need from a room ? I think the kettle and fridge included in the room would get them that extra star. All inclusive drinks. Ok so the only spirits you get is either Ouzo or Raki so if you want anything other than them you do have to pay. That sadly includes cocktails and also its worth noting you can only have those drinks between 11am -10pm local times. This is an area that i think would get them another star if they did offer cocktails. Food. So the easiest way for me to explain this is to expect Greek food or at least Greek style cooking. For example, one night we had spag bowl with red meat, the next we had spag bowl with octopus lol it was good though to be far. But yea, dont expect a full English in the morning lol. All jokes aside the food was nice, like most all inclusive meals you would not want it for more than a week but it was nice for a short break. The pool is not heated but it was 25-30 digress whilst we was there and it was cold/chilly. One of those where as long as you kept moving you didn't get cold but jumping in was a shock. Your other option is the hotels beach. Not really a beach more of a dirt surface with sunbeds on it and there is no bar. Personally i didnt even think it was worth even mentioning that the hotel has it as its about a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel and the beach is not the best. Rethymo beach is a 20-30 minutes bus ride if you want to go to the beach for the day. There is a shop in the hotel, well a small-ish room. They sold, crisps, sweets, souvenirs, sun tan lotion, fizzy drinks, water, ice creams and that is all i can remember. reasonably priced. The hotel has plenty of sun beds if you know where they all are as they there is 3 different places to find them. There is a tennis and volley ball court aswell. Check in at 3pm ! but the rooms are usually ready by 1pm. Check out is a generous 11am and if like us you do not get picked up until 6-7pm there is a place to put the suit case and a little bonus there is a warm outdoor shower facing the ocean. So we sun bathed the rest of the day on our last day and washed away the sun cream in the shower. The lounge area was just that a lounge area. There is plenty of seating and a pool table but at 2 euors a go i didnt see any one on it the hole time i was there which is shame. I feel like a free pool table brings people together and is a good way of mingling. All in all we had a great stay, the stairs we a little challenging but its on a hill, there is going to be steps. Dont let it put you off. The easiest way i can explain what kind of 3 star hotel this is is by saying its good hotel that needs a couple tweaks to make it a great hotel. I hope this helps put peoples minds at ease as i was stressing reading the reviews before we went and after speaking to other guest whilst we were there they were stressing about it to. But it was not the nightmare i was dreading in any way. It was in fact just what we went there for, a nice chill hotel with some peace and quite and few drinks. We would visit again. Scaleta Beach Hotel, if you read this my advice to get your star rating up to a 4 star resort is as follows, kettle and fridge included in the room, make cocktails part of the all inclusive package even if its an Ouzu cocktail, make the pool table free and i think most importantly get the website done as that is important these days.
