“Great hotel for all”

We stayed for a week at the end of September. Its family run and everyone is very welcoming and nice. Location is excellent and cleanliness is very good apart from not always receiving fresh towels and bedding. There were 3 of us and usually only 1 or 2 of us got a fresh towel. Food was okay and the cost of half board reflects this. The family were very accommodating and did make an extra effort with providing vegetarian food that wasn’t on the half board menu and this was very good. I really disliked the shower in our room (very small with a shower curtain) but I understand these are going to be refurbished. Would recommend for the friendliness and location. We have visited Stalis many times and I only review if I like or really dislike something.

Firstly dropped off up the road not near the actual entrance by jet 2 transfer, found our way to reception. Greated genuinely by owner, the asked "oh you booked with jet 2 " whilst he was checking his computer screen, which i felt you probably didnt get the best rooms (the rest of the week he struggled to smile at us in passing,) he showed us to our room which looked nothing like the picture. 2 single beds pushed together on a mezzanine floor up some wooden steps, no drawers smelly wardrobe, and the smallest bathroom, the shower cubicle had a curtain which stuck to you because the cubicle was tiny, water was always on the floor, no soap, a shelf that was constantly in puddles of water because it was so near the shower, the first night we were there we'd had 3 hours sleep due to early morning flight, but the bar played music till 3am, no sleep for us! This was the case every night till the early hours. We were half board, food was mediocre, so we ate out most nights, bbq was ok on the Saturday, our bed sheets were never changed all week, we had clean towels 3 times, the room wasn't swept at all that week either, €20 euros per night for air conditioning and €20 for the safe and the lovely dog that walked around used to poo near block 3 and it was just left, i booked because of other good reviews, but wouldn't recommend to anyone, and didnt think it was worth the cost we paid, and we will be passing this all onto jet 2, we would definitely visit Stalis again though.

It's a family-run affair, is the Filia - not to be confused with the hotel next door with almost the same name, still (as yet) uncompleted, and where I was dumped by the Jet2 bus, in the early evening of arrival - only to be finally rescued by the helpful Mano, and shown to my room at the correct destination. I wasn't the only one to suffer from Jet 2's negligence. It's scrupulously clean and well managed, but the design is very puzzling. In the picture, you will see the poolside bar. Directly behind that is one of the hotel blocks, and the balcony of my bedroom was about five yards from the bar, which plays impossibly loud disco diva music from late afternoon and into the small hours. Do NOT stay on that floor, otherwise you'll be attempting to sleep with your windows locked and the curtains drawn against the constant racket. Take your earplugs. There are no complimentary bathroom items (not even a soap dispenser), there is no rack for them in the showers anyway, and be extra careful with the hot water - it can at times be scalding. The staff are charming, friendly and efficient, the half-board food is adequate (but who comes to Greece to eat the cook's idea of a roast beef dinner?) and the breakfasts are precisely the same every day. Stalis is just down the hill, not a town, but a tediously long strip, where you'll find such traditional "delights" as Irish pubs, British bars, souvenir shops selling the usual tat, car hire outlets, and just a few lifesaving traditional bars/tavernas. Filia genuinely tries hard, and the family are charming, but a return visit? Never. Ever. Not so much a resort, as a last resort.
