“Very comfortable base from which to explore Naxos or access beaches”

We stayed at the Proteas Hotel & Suites for 3 nights in late June, as part of an island-hopping trip. We were very pleased with our choice. The hotel is very peaceful, both in terms of location and lack of noise from other guests from our experience, despite there being 31 rooms. We requested a high room and were allocated 13, which was on the top floor of a 2-storey block towards the rear, with far reaching sea views from the balcony which had 2 chairs and a little table. The balcony was shady in the morning and baking hot in the afternoon (there’s an umbrella but not actually useful given the angle of the sun). Our double junior suite was very spacious and well thought out in terms of storage, suitcase space, plug sockets and mirrors (2 in the bedroom as well as the bathroom one). The shower was powerful and hot – just the usual issue we find overseas, of it being wet room style so watch where you put the bathmat! There was a kitchenette with 2 ring hob with pans and good-sized fridge with freezer compartment, though we didn’t prep any meals. The hotel rate includes breakfast and you’re presented with a lovely extensive breakfast menu to choose from, including Greek yoghurt with fruit/nuts, and a range of egg options. We recommend the Naxian scrambled eggs! Breakfast is taken on the terrace by reception which is shady in the morning (presumably moved into the reception foyer room in bad weather). The closest section of Aghios Prokopios beach is less than 10 mins walk down a track that goes off just below the hotel, between the lagoons. The main resort with restaurants is 17 mins walk away via the road. All very doable. Tip: hunt around for the best value sunbeds on the beach – prices vary considerably, as does level of padding and quality of sunshades! There’s a bus stop as you join the main road and we used the local bus to get from and back to the port and to visit Naxos Town one evening (recommended, only about 20mins away). It goes every half hour and you can buy the tickets from the hotel reception. We enjoyed a swim in the pool on return to the hotel on two evenings – lovely temperature (more comfortable than the chilly sea!) and quite deep (so not good for young kids but great for a proper swim). Limited sunbeds there but no issue for us as we enjoyed relaxing at the beach. This is a very welcoming family run hotel and all staff were friendly and helpful. We would recommend this hotel as a comfortable good quality base, well located to both relax and explore Naxos.

“Superb family run hotel”

This hotel is an absolute gem and would highly recommend. The family who run it made us feel really welcomed and could not do enough for us. The hotel was immaculate and in a superb location and we look forward to returning in the future. A great place for anyone visiting Naxos. Thank you Proteas.

We stayed here from June 15 - June 19 as a family of 4 with 2 teenagers. The people running the hotel are so welcoming, gracious, and try so very hard to make their guests feel welcome and help you. The location is great, away from the hustle and bustle, but only an 8 minute walk away from everything. You cannot ask for more. The room we had was the family quad room, so 1 queen and 2 twins. The room was spacious and had a really nice patio that looked out onto the pool. There were drying lines for your bathing suits, etc! That was a really thoughtful touch. The beds themselves left a little to be desired in this room (maybe the non famiy rooms are more comfortable). They were REALLY hard. I do prefer a firm mattress but this was just hard and not super comfortable. We stayed in 5 hotels / rentals this trip and these were definitely the least comfortable. Our sheets were also...loud. The pool is beautiful, but the clientele is much more the sit at the pool than use the pool clientele. If you want to acutally use the pool you will have to wait until this group moves on to dinner around 7 pm. My daughter was disappointed about that. I have heard the phrase "family friendly" but the clientele here were more "family tolerated", again, while we were there. Overall the hotel was run by some amazing staff, it is beautiful with a great location and big rooms. Pool is not for playing and beds in quad room are not super comfortable.
