We stayed at the Johanna Park Hotel in July 2026 and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The hotel is well maintained, spotlessly clean and offers a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, making it an ideal place to unwind after exploring the Sorrento area. One of the highlights was the excellent 10-metre swimming pool. The water was always crystal clear, lightly chlorinated and impeccably maintained. It features a shallow end with steps and a handrail, as well as a large built-in jacuzzi bench. As many guests spend their days sightseeing or taking excursions, the pool was usually quiet, which suited us perfectly. There were plenty of comfortable sun loungers, many with built-in sun shades, along with large parasols providing ample shade and small tables for drinks and personal belongings. Our two first-floor sea-view/twin rooms were very clean and comfortable. Although the décor is a little traditional, everything was well looked after and in excellent condition. The air conditioning kept the rooms pleasantly cool, while the heavy blackout curtains did an excellent job of keeping out the strong Mediterranean sunshine. The bathrooms were clean and well maintained, with a toilet, bidet, wash basin and shower over the bath. One room had a sea-view terrace and the other overlooked the pool, with both balconies providing a lovely place to relax in the evening or dry swimming costumes and towels after a day by the pool. The hotel is set on a hillside above Sorrento, offering stunning views but meaning it isn’t really practical to walk into town because of the narrow, winding roads and lack of pavements. However, this was easily overcome by the hotel’s excellent shuttle bus service, which runs hourly from 9:00–10:00 and again from 15:00–22:00, taking around 15 minutes to reach Sorrento. It drops guests off at a convenient point on the eastern side of town and collects from the same location. Taxis are also readily available, typically costing around €30–€40 each way. The hotel itself has three floors plus a rooftop viewing terrace that offers spectacular panoramic views across the Bay of Naples, the Sorrento coastline, Capri and the surrounding hills. It’s well worth visiting, especially at sunset. The staff were consistently friendly, welcoming and attentive, always happy to help with any request. The reception area is comfortably air conditioned, with a small adjoining bar serving a good selection of drinks. Guests can also enjoy complimentary chilled still and sparkling water throughout the day. Breakfast offered a generous self-service buffet with a good selection of Italian pastries, breads, cheeses, ham, fresh tomatoes and cucumber, scrambled eggs, frankfurters and, on some mornings, bacon. Unlimited fruit juices, bottled water and excellent coffee prepared by the breakfast staff made for a great start to the day. The hotel restaurant offers both indoor seating and a spacious covered outdoor terrace. While the standard menu is fairly concise, the chef prepares several daily specials each evening, all enthusiastically explained by the maître d’, providing plenty of variety during our stay. The rooms include an in-room safe, hairdryer and small refrigerator. Although there are no tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms, the hotel bar is always happy to prepare hot drinks whenever required. Overall, Johanna Park Hotel offers excellent value, beautiful views, a peaceful setting and genuinely warm hospitality. If you’re looking for a relaxing base from which to explore Sorrento, Capri and the Amalfi Coast, we would happily recommend it and would certainly consider staying there again.
