“Stylish old hotel”

Visited SBT for three days in early September for a family wedding. The Progresso is in a great position on the sea front with the beach 100 metres away, (across a busy road )and sea views from the rooms. Even nicer if you have a balcony. Our room was large and airy. Progresso is nearly 100 years old and has an art deco feel. Reception was very welcoming and helpful and after a long journey the hotel was a relaxing place to be. It's clearly a place where they have done things in a certain way for decades and see no reason to change. This can be charming and infuriating, for instance why not use the bar area better and actually have an open bar in the evening? Why do you have to book dinner at 09.00 in the morning...with no chance of getting dinner in the hotel if you've only arrived in the afternoon? Breakfast was good with plenty of buffet options ( boil your own egg) and excellent coffee. The staff were very attentive and cheerful. Our biggest complaint would be the noise from the disco clubs that line the beach side of the road.After midnight it is loud and even with shutters down and windows closed it was difficult to sleep. The hotel know that this is an issue, and even provide earplugs in your rom! We were there over the weekend, so don't know if it is like this all week, but Saturday night/ Sunday morning in particular was noisy until 03.00. So a room at the front with a sea view is great during the day, but not so good late at night. Luckily for us the ear plugs and /or noise cancelling headphones worked and we got reasonable amount of sleep. Progresso has an agreement with the Stella Maris beach right opposite, so you can book your beach lounger/ umbrella at reception. This is a stylish hotel and comfortable place to stop, but the noise at night really put us off

“Beautiful hotel, great location”

My wife and our two young daughters stayed at the Hotel Progresso for four nights in late July 2015. We had a sea-facing room on the top floor (3rd floor, as Europeans would say). Our room was spacious enough, with a queen-size bed, and a bunk-bed-like thing that our daughters slept on. This latter piece of furniture was the cause of some concern initially -- it has no permanent side slats to prevent somebody from rolling off the top bunk, just a removable/folding side slat that slips under the mattress. Also, the ladder didn't attach properly, so we were a bit nervous every time our daughter climbed into and out of bed. Thankfully, nothing went wrong. The bathroom was downright large by European standards, and the air conditioner did its job quite well. Since we were on the top floor, the balcony wasn't what you see on the front of the 1st and 2nd floors of the building, with nice railings. I'd think that a room on the 2nd floor might be preferable for both the nicer balcony AND higher ceilings, while still being far enough up from the street below. The breakfast was, as noted in other reviews, completely lackluster. The breakfast room (or 'veranda') is quite nice and the staff works hard to accommodate all needs, but the options are completely average -- all white breads (not even 'integrale'), hard boiled eggs, yogurt, ham, cheese, corn flakes, apples, kiwis, coffee, tea, and juice. There's a great cappuccino machine in the bar area around the corner, but one has to ask the staff to make a coffee using that machine -- otherwise, you're left with the automatic push-button machine in the breakfast room. Speaking of the bar, when it is open?!? Apparently never, which is a shame. The bar area is small but stylish, and it connects to a beautiful period sitting room that's just begging to be used during a cocktail hour complete with martinis. The hotel could do more to play upon its great historical appearance in this way and others. In terms of location, the hotel is right across the beach access road from a fine sand beach with loads of chairs/umbrellas (for rent of course), and roughly 10 mins from the center of the newer part of San Benedetto. Far more worth your time is a 20 min walk from the hotel to the historical center of San Benedetto, up on the hill -- views are great, air is cooler, and the restaurants are much better.

Progresso is a sea front old hotel, 100+ years old, rooms are pretty small but ok, showers are very small, but you can survive considering that is just 20m from the sea. Breakfast is very poor, only some little pastry, 1 type of ham and cheese (only a few slices) and boiled eggs (you can ask for omelets if you want.They could add a few stuff and improve breakfast and i think it will improve hotel ratings a lot. Overall is good considering this position, very close to the sea and city center.
