We had a very good experience staying in this home. The owner Luciano was very friendly and introduced us the home and our rooms. The rooms were clean and in very good conditions, as the rest of the house. There is also very beautiful view from our rooms. We had the breakfast in another property close by, and we were picked up by a lady in the morning, and the breakfast was in original Italian style.

I was hesitant based on a prior review. But I took a chance and it paid off. The owner and his wife are super friendly (I stayed at the "older" residence). They gave great recommendations and patiently answered all questions including a history of the place. The breakfast was good and room was very big and clean. Very happy with this stay.

“This rating is higher because of low price.”

We chose this B&B for its on-site parking, low price, and location (an easy drive to the Roman Villa). We were here in the shoulder season. We chose this B&B for its on-site parking, low price, and location (an easy drive to the Roman Villa). We were here in the shoulder season. This B&B is one block from a second B&B owned by the same man, Luciano. When we arrived at Cassa Rossa the host was not there, though he did arrive soon. Since only two parties were at Cassa Rossa that night, we would have our free breakfast with his other guests at the second B&B. He let us choose between rooms and then we saw him at breakfast the next morning. Breakfast was like a big family meal, passing food around and making conversation. The host (an agricultural teacher) is gregarious and friendly. On this morning he was particularly proud of the tomatoes his students had grown. The overall experience was a bit quirky but fine. We were in Luciano's world. Our bed and bath were okay, the room was bare, the vintage chairs were interesting, Roman-themed original artwork on the bedroom walls was interesting, and the moonlit view of the nearby hill town and its duomo was especially nice. Cassa Rossa Country House is probably best for self-catering groups. If we return, we will book, sleep at and eat at the host's second B&B (La Casa sulla Collina d'Oro). After another tomato, we were off to see the Roman Villa. Greatest strengths: low price and proximity to Roman Villa.

The host, Luciano, owns 2 properties: La Casa Rossa Country House, for which we booked, and nearby La Casa sulla Collina d'Oro, which used to be owned by his mother. Luciano is extremely friendly and gregarious even though he does not speak English very well. He runs his B&B with his cheerful wife and a young German-speaking helper. When we arrived at La Casa Rossa, we found it locked. But there was a sign on the door with Luciano's name and phone number on it. I called and he answered, telling me he would be there in 2 minutes. His helper drove up shortly and asked us to follow her to the other property, which was just around the corner on the next street over. Once there, Luciano explained that he was doing some maintenance to La Casa Rossa during the off season when not many guests came to visit. We would be staying at La Casa sulla Collina d'Oro, instead. It was a large, older house with a great panoramic view in the back, where the breakfast room and balcony were. It was a chilly day and a crackling fire was burning nicely in the fireplace in the living room. Even before we were shown to our room, Luciano offered us coffee and wine. What hospitality! We enjoyed our espresso and wine sitting on comfortable couch and listening to Italian music while looking at the cathedral on the opposite hill glowing in the late-afternoon sun. Luciano made some excellent restaurant recommendations for dinner. The room was adequate in size with a large bath. The shower stall was the usual tiny square affair, about 65cm on each side. There was plenty of hot water for shower, though. Breakfast was very good and served in a communal style around a huge table. Although the weather was not the best during our visit, we had an excellent stay nevertheless. I would definitely recommend this place.
