I had a wonderful stay at Medusa Suites in Taormina. The location in the historic center is perfect, and the interior design is beautiful and stylish. The staff were kind, welcoming, and very helpful. Cleanliness was of a very high standard throughout the property. The food at the Bistrot was delicious and added even more enjoyment to the stay. Highly recommended!

“Beautiful place to stay, but some quirks”

We had a lovely stay at Médousa suites and I’d recommend it for couples or friends, however I would not recommend it for bookings of 3 and I would also say there are a few things they could do to improve the rooms and service offered. We stayed for 5 nights over Easter with our 10 year old daughter. We were delighted and very grateful to be upgraded to the corner suite, but with the 3rd bed in you cannot move and if the weather is not great and you cannot really use the balcony it’s even more cramped. Without the third bed the room would be an ok size, but even then not huge. The outside space is lovely but obviously only usable if you have the right weather. It was very mixed weather for our stay, sunny in between rain showers. There are a few quirks with the room which weren’t ideal for us. The shower and toilet are at the end of the room with a panel of frosted glass instead of a wall dividing them from the sleeping area. It looked quite nice but you can see the person behind the glass, and frankly we would rather totally privacy to go to the loo or shower. Both the shower and toilet are tiny which is claustrophobic and doesn’t really make either a relaxing experience. They are also open at the top so you can fully hear the person using the toilet. Not nice and not something I want to listen to or smell! The shower floods the room very easily and although we had enough towels to use to keep mopping the floor, it’s frankly impractical. Outside the shower/toilet area there is a double sink. Whilst this is nice it’s not needed, if they had just one sink then maybe the shower/toilet could have been made bigger. The room is defiantly style over substance, there is no full length mirror, a tiny open wardrobe and no drawers or shelves for you to store your clothing, and equally no space to lay a case open to use as makeshift drawers. There is no shelf in the shower so all your toiletries have to go on the floor and there are no hooks by the door for your jackets, so if they are wet from a rain shower there is no where for them to go. Small things could be done that would make the rooms far more practical and wouldn’t make the rooms any less stylish. The service we received from the team was great…..when they were there. Whilst we know we stayed early season, the place was almost like an air bnb for much of the time. The restaurant was not open, reception only seemed to open when guests were due to check in or check out. We had a key to let ourselves in and out of a gated entrance. The team were great at responding on WhatsApp but it just felt like the place was deserted and we couldn’t even get a drink. Breakfast wasn’t included due to the restaurant being shut but they could easily do a breakfast basket of pastries and deliver it to the rooms. Personally I don’t think the rooms should be available to book if the place isn’t open, even a limited service. We paid £2300 for 5 nights in a junior suite at the end of March, so it’s not cheap and I don’t think we are wrong to expect a bit more service than we got. But having said all of the above, this place is so pretty and located in a really great location. Beds are comfy, coffee machine/fridge/sink area is a great bonus in the rooms. The rooms are very clean and toiletries very nice and topped up every day. Everyone is friendly and helpful and I would recommend Medousa suites to the right guest…..couples or friends on a very short stay and not outside of peak times. We loved Taormina, it’s beautiful, great food and wine, loads to do and see and overall had a great trip!

“Very expensive B&B nothing more!”

Excellent location & pretty garden courtyard. We booked their "signature suite". A very odd room with an open shower at end of the bed, offering zero privacy, You shower in full view of whomever you're with, (the bed got wet every time you had a shower ). Nowhere to place toiletries, other than on the shower floor. On the other side of the bed, two enormous round sinks, no space for toiletries again. Bedside stands only accommodate one cup. Sheets and towels only changed every 3 days, no matter how you asked. On the second evening we came back to the courtyard for a drink. The staff asked if we were having diner. I said no. Was told we can't have a drink here, only on the terrace upstairs..it's hotel rules! The tables were empty and we were the only patrons there. The breakfast was very poor indeed, very limited choice and no variety for 10 days. We couldn't have breakfast 3 mornings, because we wanted an early start, they only start serving breakfast from 8am. NO EXCEPTIONS. We had to ask for coffee at breakfast EVERY day! It was never offered. We only ate there once, as the restaurant has a very limited menu and food was mediocre as was the service. We read some reviews stating this was their "favourite hotel in the world" must be a very, very small world they travel in. Another said " top 5 restaurant world wide", really? Not even close to top 5 in Taormina! A strangely designed and very, expensive B&B ! Don't expect hotel service. Go with that and you know what to expect.
