In May, I spent a long weekend at Canapai with friends. The Camping lies borderline with a natural park; it is green, secluded, and quiet, making you feel relaxed and at home. The services are accessible, clean and in good shape. Despite the camping being 10 minutes walk away from the beach and gorgeous rock of Ortano, we decided to go off the mainstream Elba activity (lying on the beach) and go for hikes in the nearby area. The gracious camping owner, Vittorio, is a member of the Italian Alpine Club. and a wealth of knowledge of Elba's hiking trails (even those that are off the radar). Following his advice, we ended up hiking high above Rio Elba town along a ridge from which you see almost the entire island. Gorgeous scenarios while walking amidst the flowering 'cisto', Mountain bikers (we left our bikes home this time) will find that this is a place to visit. The camping has a small but well equipped bike shop to service your ride, and many of the hikes can be done on two wheels. Furthermore, Capoliveri's MTB park is within biking distance. The only thing I personally didn't enjoy is the fact that if you want to go to the Ortano beach you need to walk briefly through a pink monstrosity which is a tourist village built between the camping and the seashore, but that has nothing to do with the camping management, of course. Finally, the cherry on the cake: the restaurant. You would not think much of it from the outside, but Paola, the chef, is amazing! We had some of the best fish dishes, simple and yet way beyond expectations. Fabrizio, Serena and Rachele, which manage the place, were incredibly nice, helpful, and courteous. They hunt for local products, which Paola transforms into great fare. They offer the classic italian breakfast, but you can elect to go for a way more filling one, with cakes, fruit, yogurt, and much more. And all of this for a fraction of the average Elba price. Highly recommended!

“The perfect weekend!”

Camping Canapai was amazing! The accommodations were very relaxing and secluded from the larger port area providing the perfect getaway. Camping Canapai was amazing! The accommodations were very relaxing and secluded from the larger port area providing the perfect getaway. There was a beach located about ten minutes from the camping ground and there was a restaurant and pool located on site. The accommodations were very affordable and the food from the restaurant was great. The best thing about our stay however was the amazing staff. Vittoria was an amazing host. We were the last guests for the season but Vittoria still made sure we had a great time. He drove us around the island and showed us around. He also offered advice on the best beaches to visit and assisted us in using the bus system to navigate our way around the island. We even enjoyed some traditional food of Elba with Vittoria and the cook. This trip exceeded our expectations tremendously all thanks to the Camping Canapai staff.

Just returned from this wonderful place on Elba and would urge people to go. So much cheaper than the bigger, more commercial sites and the fact that it is privately run means the staff that work there genuinely care about your experience and go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need. We were picked up at Rio Marina as we came without a car, and that could have been a problem had it not been for the kindness of Vittorio and his son Paolo who offered a drop off/collection service which we combined with public transport. We stayed in one of the tents on site which was great - clean, everything we needed to make it comfortable and with views of the sea and hills. We visited various beaches around the island and snorkelled and the water is clean and warm. Really hope we can return.

We booked 3 nights here but ended up booking 3 more because we loved it so much. The best thing about the site was the lovely staff. So friendly, pleasant and helpful. The site was lovely and quiet in a peaceful wood. The pool bar was excellent and the pool wonderful. The toilet blocks were clean and functional but in need of an update. It could have done with a little shop selling fresh bread and essentials and maybe a pizza oven. Overall a great place to stay.
