Check in seemed a little disorganized as many rooms were not ready at check in time. The beach area like most of the Caribbean is disappearing and weedy. The buffet is excellent. The restaurants need to up their food choices. The entertainment is very good. The premium beverage choices were excellent as were the bar staff. The pools are super warm almost hot or unbearable, the beach is a better choice for warm but not hot water.

My husband and I stayed at Riu Palace in Montego Bay for our honeymoon / first anniversary from May 3rd to May 8th. The front desk staff are warm and friendly. The facility is beautiful! My housekeeper, Patrice, did an amazing job cleaning our room on a daily basis! The housekeeping supervisor, Kemeisha, has the warmest smile, very friendly, and help to decorate our room free of charge!! Honestly, housekeeping deserves a 10 star!!!! The meals were average. We would go over to Riu Montego Bay for most of our meals and definitely for the night entertainment. There is absolutely no entertainment at the palace. If they had entertainers, they were probably sleeping, lol. If one just want to relax, read a book, drink some alcohol, and charge their phone, then the palace would be perfect for you. If one is more interested in good food and entertainment, Riu Montego Bay would be more appealing to you. Apart from the beauty of the rooms and lobby area, the palace is BORING!! There is a wider variety of food choices at Riu Montego Bay. Carlos, one of the main chefs who prepared the Jamaican meals at Riu MontegoBay, does an amazing job!! 👏 We will definitely stay at Riu Montego Bay on our next trip to Jamaica!!

Hotel quality what you would expect from a Riu Palace. Very friendly staff, great food etc. Minor issues in first few days when jackhammer and drilling work on ground floor reverberated through the rooms upstairs in the afternoon.The bigger issue is some of the guests who have zero respect for other guests. This hotel is certainly more attractive for the younger element but that should not be a complete deterrent for older guests. I understand the area was reclaimed mangrove swampland and as soon as you step into the sea you can tell as you sink quite deep in the soft silty mud. The ‘ beach’ has been artificially created and is just about ok rather than nice pleasant soft sand. Personally not that bothered as beach is not our primary concern, but if it is, then maybe you should look elsewhere. The beach is private so you will not be hassled by vendors who peddle their wares from canoes that can only come to the shoreline. The obvious sales attraction for many is stuff you can smoke that is illegal in most countries. Fair enough, if people want to people smoke a bit of weed and not interfere with anyone else. Our only real grouse is some of the guests behaviour. Dress codes are virtually ignored and whilst no one expects library silence, the shouting and screeching of some of the booze filled guests was deafening at times. The doors to the rooms are quite capable to be gently closed with a quiet ‘click’ but obviously this is beyond the understanding of some guests who can only slam them shut with a violence that explode down the corridors and shake the foundations of the whole building, especially inconsiderate in the early hours. Perhaps the hotel should put up signs for those that can read, explaining that the doors can close without brutality. The music played by the entertainment team around the pool areas has to be loud and is ok with a range of popular music. However, and luckily at the end of the holiday, a group of either Jamaicans or Americans, decided they would bring their own boombox to the poolside and treat everyone to a load of s*** at full blast. Not content with this level of selfishness and ignorance they then decided to smoke their dope in and around the pool. Both these things are of course not allowed but one of the entertainment team chose to have a laugh and joke with them rather than tell them to stop. Riu Palaces are not cheap and this was the fifth one we have visited, chosen for their quality. Sadly this is one we will not revisit
