The location of this resort is amazing. The views are beautiful, and it is really nice to be right on a beach where you can actually go in the water and walk to other places along the beach. The setting itself is one of the best parts of the property, and it is a big reason we returned after having a mostly good experience last year. Unfortunately, this year was extremely disappointing. This was my second year in a row bringing a group to this resort. I brought 42 guests and served as the tour conductor, yet there was no acknowledgment or effort made to make our group feel welcomed or appreciated. Even trying to get a few tables together at a restaurant felt like we were causing a problem. The first night, two people in my room got sick after eating at the buffet. We cleaned the bathroom the best we could with the only thing available to us, which was a towel, and then we were charged $29 for that towel. I found that ridiculous and disappointing. Guests should not be penalized for getting sick in their own bathroom, especially when no cleaning supplies or paper towels were provided. The dining experience was also frustrating. There was nowhere to sit and have a drink before dinner, and the host staff at several restaurants were not welcoming at all. At Rose, there was not a single place to sit down for a drink during dinner hours. If we tried to go to the bar inside the buffet, the hosts were rude and told us we could not be there. For a beach resort, it also makes no sense that there is not a casual dinner option where guests can come from the pool or beach in a coverup and grab something to eat. One very basic thing missing from the rooms is enough outlets to charge devices. Having a fridge in the room was a nice feature for storing water, but guests should be told at check-in the best way to get water. One night, when we stopped by the front desk and asked for water, we were rudely told that we should not get it from them and needed to get it from the bar or room service instead. That is information that should be clearly communicated upfront, not delivered in a dismissive way after guests ask for help. The pool towel policy also needs to be clearly explained at check-in. If you check out a towel and then simply drop it in the towel bin without having your card scanned again, they will either charge you for the towel or not allow you to check out another one. When we questioned it, the response was basically, “read the sign.” Really? Guests should not be expected to figure out a charging policy by reading a sign after the fact. A simple explanation at check-in or when towels are first handed out would prevent confusion and frustration. The housekeeping staff did a great job, and the servers and bartenders were truly the bright spot of the trip. Unfortunately, those positives were overshadowed by the poor treatment from the host staff and front desk, the lack of dining options, unclear policies, and the towel charge after guests got sick. We came back because we had a mostly good experience last year, but after this trip, I would not return. The resort has a beautiful location and a lot of potential, but it needs serious improvement in hospitality, guest service, communication, and basic problem-solving if they want guests, especially groups, to come back.
