PUEBLO BONITO PACIFICA – THE TOWERS THE BASICS. My wife and I have recently come back from a week’s vacation at the Pueblo Bonito Pacifica (Dec 15 – Dec 22). To be specific (and it matters) we upgraded to the premium level: ‘The Towers’. It’s an important distinction and it appears that many travellers get confused with what it all entails. You get all the perks of the Pacifica (Butler, adults only, etc.) but with added access to the VIP lounge (more of this later). The Towers are connected to the rest of the resort and reside at the far end of the resort. The advantage of these towers are numerous. It not only is closest to the beach, but also in close proximity to the VIP Lounge, Gym, and the Peninsula Restaurant. First, a couple of housekeeping items. For most people who have booked an all-inclusive package, you will be picked up outside of the airport where your bus transfer will take you directly to the resort. There is a dedicated waiting area across the road from the airport where all resort travellers will queue up for their rides to their individual resorts. It is well organized and hassle-free. I have seen many different reviews stating how long the ride is. The ride is just under an hour (I timed it). It is not 40 to 45 minutes as some reviews have stated, unless you have private transportation. CHECK IN PROCESS. The check in process is fairly simple, but there is no dedicated check-in for The Towers. Be forewarned that a time-share station is situated right of the front desk who will guise themselves as a ‘welcome committee’. Do not fall for this. As with most resorts, you will receive a wristband which will also double as your room key. Unfortunately, it is also used to scan your restaurant confirmation which really becomes tiring after a few days (more of this later). THE ROOMS. The rooms are fairly standard. Those expecting something more grand will be disappointed – especially considering the cost of the upgrade. However, the rooms (suites) are spacious, clean, and fairly modern. The balcony is quite large with a glass railing that will not obstruct your spectacular view of the ocean and resort. We stayed in room 1735 which I believe may have been the best room in the resort. It is literally two doors down from the VIP lounge. Speaking of the VIP lounge, it is well worth the upgrade to the towers. Not only is the food and liquor selection one of the best in the resort but the outdoor patio has unobstructed views of the ocean and whale watching. There are some snacks for breakfast and lunch however many of the items will run out. THE RESORT. The resort is very quiet. If you are looking for a hub of activity, you will be disappointed. My wife and I wanted a relaxing and quiet vacation and got exactly what we had hoped for. If you’re looking for more activities you’re only a shuttle away to the other resorts. To be clear, Pueblo Bonito is a collection of five resorts. The Pacifica is the Adults-Only Resort but you get full access to the other four. The largest of these Resorts is the family all-inclusive resort, Sunset Beach. This is a massive family resort cut into the hill. Many of the reviews talk about the necessity for shuttles and golf cart style transportation which is true. One thing I will dispute on many of the reviews is that these shuttles come infrequently. Depending on the hour of the day these shuttles run often and are very organized. My suggestion would be to check with the front desk or the concierge at the front to book a shuttle if one isn’t already there waiting. Most times shuttles arrive within a few minutes. ACCESSIBILITY. We love the ability to frequent the other resorts: The Pacifica, Sunset Beach, Montecristo, and the two resorts in the town of Cabo: Blanca and Rose. These latter resorts are situated a short walk from the Marina at one of the few swimmable beaches. To travel to these resorts, you’ll have to reserve a shuttle from Sunset Beach to the Rose. The shuttles leave Sunset Resort every hour on the hour with the last leaving around 10:00 p.m. Coming back from Rose the busses leave every half hour. DINING. With access to all five resorts, you’ll never have issues finding a great dining experience. The Pacifica has five premium restaurants and four bars. Reservations are highly recommended but not mandatory. One process that appears in previous reviews and is in need of clarification, is that at the conclusion of your meal, you’ll be asked to scan your bracelet. Our understanding is that the resort is simply trying to keep track of what each guest has ordered. If you read the screen, it’s just an itemized list of your bill. This is for the guests who didn’t opt for the all-inclusive add-on. For those who did, you’ll scan your bracelet which will then zero all the items. The app does prompt you to tip however you can opt out. UPGRADES. WORTH THE PRICE? The quick answer: for sure. For us, it was completely worth having the concierge/butler experience as they made our trip seamless and hassle free. Pueblo Bonito has a very good app in which you can do all your booking and reservations however the concierge is able to tweak and change things and explore other options for you that the app cannot provide. Our butler (Itamar) also was instrumental in booking our return transfers back to the airport. The access to the VIP lounge is worth every penny. The patio is outstanding and the inside seating area is very open and spacious with a snack and drink area plus a comfortable sitting area to lounge or just watch TV. TIPS AND TRICKS.  Guests of the Pacifica have full access to breakfast and lunch at the Golf Course (highly recommended)  Bring a pair of binoculars for spectacular whale watching  Ask about the turtle hatchling release. We were fortunate to witness such an event.  Be prepared to have a full understanding of the ingredients to your favourite cocktails as many of our choices were unfamiliar to the bartenders.  Unlike other resorts, there are plenty of loungers, however, get one early as the good spots fill up quickly.  Treat yourself to a drink or meal at The Cibola. The sunset views cannot be beat.  If you ask for an Americano, be prepared to receive a drip coffee. Make sure you add the word ‘espresso’ to your order.  Bring an extra layer of clothing for the evenings as they can get a little chilly.

“Very average stay”

Very average place- food is slightly above average, relative to other all inclusive, but nothing to write home about. I absolutely would not spend the extra money to stay in the towers, unless you really want your own private plunge pool. The ‘Butlers’ are nice, but they created more of a headach… more

Spa is nice, and helps that staying here is the only way to play Quivira- take away the golf, and I’d probably remove half a star
