“Won't be back.”

It was our second trip to this property. The first visit was just after they opened. It is the usual excellent Westin service and amenities. We arrived at 2:30 after a delayed flight and waited til after 5 til our room was ready. Despite being Platinum Owners, I felt this to be a bit long to wait for a room when checkout is before noon. But be advised that this property is all by itself. There is no shopping, no nature to wander, no beach to walk along. It is the pool or nothing. And with the activities going on from about 11-3 each day, it is not quiet. In addition, the restaurant selection on the property is very limited. There is a sports bar, a casual dining place and then a place for dinner. They are literally all connected, just different doors and different hours of operation. The fancy place, which requires a reservation, opens at 5 and is a walk up to the Owners rooms and owners pool. So, if you are wanting to explore you are going to have to go somewhere in a car in traffic that can be awful. The room was great as usual. Every room has a patio or a balcony. Every room faces the ocean. The AC is super cold. Blackout curtains allow for restfull sleep. But i did find the feeling of being stuck on the property a little much for me. I probably wont be back.

Things I wish I’d known about the Westin Baja Point: 1. The only restaurant on the property is not kid-friendly. This is a Westin Vacation Club supposedly intended for families. Twice we were told “this really is not a place for small kids.” We only went back a second time because the front desk and concierge had told us that of course they would accommodate kids. One of many times when the message we heard from one staff member was completely different from another. After the second time we were turned away, I told the front desk that we were frustrated. I got a call later that night from a “supervisor” who did not ask me to explain the situation but rather informed me that he’d already talked to the restaurant manager and he was certain he was only “informing” us of the coursed menu so that we knew it would take longer for us to eat. First, the worst example of customer service - if you’re going to call a customer, start by asking them what went wrong, not telling them why you’re right. Second, the concern of the length of dinner was ridiculous. We returned from eating at the Westin next door at the same time as the family (older kids) in front of us at the hostess stand exited the restaurant. Our meal took the same amount of time. 2. This place is difficult to get around and not stroller friendly. We had to take two elevators and then park our stroller at the end of our building, about 50 yards from our front door and haul our kids and all things up and then down flights of stairs. Even better, on the last day, our stroller was gone from where we’d parked it. Spent the last morning speaking to security, housekeeping, etc and preparing to go to the airport without a stroller. They called a couple hours later and had “found it in another building.” No apology, no further explanation, just returned the stroller and walked away. 3. We had a three bedroom unit. Unclear if this was only true for our unit or is true for all 3 bedrooms, but in order to have access between the rooms, we had to keep doors opened into the center foyer the entire time. If we did not, they would close and lock and we'd have to go outside to gain access again. As you can imagine, this means walking very carefully in and out of the room to avoid hitting yourself in the head with an open door. 4. Servers in the restaurants where we did eat (at the Westin) and at the pool were very polite and accommodating, but be prepared to wait. Most meals took 90 mins plus which is a long time with small kids. Pool orders took 40 min to an hour. 5. Owners are treated VERY differently from non-owners. They have an entire pool that is owners-only - one of two pools onsite. I've seen special seating for owners at other Westin properties, but an entire pool with many more attendants is a first. On the plus side, the whirlpool on the deck is a nice addition especially for our kids, and the view from the deck is directly overlooking the ocean and gorgeous. Thank goodness for the Westin next door as we would not have had anywhere to eat without it. Their pool is also very nice and right on the beach, with a pool bar in the adults only pool. They had cute pool aerobics and games for the kids on Easter. All in all, I suppose we got what we paid for. This resort cost substantially less than other Westin Vacation Clubs we've visited in the US and substantially less than an of the luxury resorts nearby (The 5-star One and Only Palmilla is about 10 mins away and ironically was more than happy to welcome our kids to dinners at their restaurants). I only wish I'd known of these things prior to visiting as it would have led me to reconsider.

“Disappointed but made the best of the trip.”

Rooms were leaking, had ants on the countertop. We had a hurricane come through. They were very accommodating to get all the water off the floor. This went on for two days. So we had 6 people cleaning up all the water. Just interferes with the whole process of trying to relax. Next, we hired a private car to pick us up. We had a shared ride, however it took talking to the concierge every day to explain that we don’t want to be charged for a private car if we had a shared ride. They kept trying to charge us 190 dollars. A shared round trip is 120. By the time was said, we will get an Uber, they finally, on the last day, gave us the 120 rate. Again, it was frustrating but we made the best of it. At the restaurant, we told them I was allergic to shellfish. Filled out a form. They brought out a tasting and I asked, is there shellfish in this, the waiter said no. It was delicious but it did have shellfish in it. So, again, interfere with the trip. My rating is a 3 only because of the beauty of the place.
