My husband and I came here to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. This was our first time to Mexico. We loved the resort. The staff is excellent and very attentive: from the front desk, butler (Andres is amazing), to the wait staff at all of the restaurants. The pools were well maintained and clean. The landscaping is beautiful. Every room has an ocean view. We were right on the beach. There was entertainment most nights. We had the all-inclusive package which included drinks and all meals. It was nice not having to cook or clean up. They also have a wonderful spa and our spa treatments were exceptional. Be prepared to have pesos to tip the staff at each meal. I also recommend tipping your house keeper and Butler. The one complaint that I have is that they will try to sell you a Vacation Club Membership/Time Share. They give you perks for attending the meeting. We actually did sign up for the 15 year membership because we love it there so much. But I would have preferred them to be more upfront about it when we asked if that was what they were doing. Overall, we loved our stay and of course will be back.

We've traveled to Puerto Vallarta over 20 times and stayed at various places. Sunset Plaza Beach Resort is our favorite small resort in Puerto Vallarta by far. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful - they treat you like family. The food for the all inclusive is all my menu and excellent quality in all 5 restaurants. All rooms are comfortable with large balconys overlooking the water. Direct beach access with lots of activities. We belong to Plaza Vacation Club and Diana gives great service handling reservations and arrangements.

Sunset Plaza Puerto Vallarta Oct 11 – 18, 2025 We revisited this resort on an exchange. We had a high floor room so we had a great ocean view. All rooms face the ocean. The lovely balcony is almost unusable though as it is in constant sun. The unit is large, we had a 2 bedroom. The kitchen looks modern but rest of the room is an odd design, Bed side tables are attached and a good foot lower then mattress. LOL. Lights are very fluorescent. There are 3 bathrooms which is lovely. Couches could use some replacement. No real complaints. Maid service good. The food was quite good but sadly the specialty restaurant was under renovation so everything was at restaurant in middle, outdoors so no AC. Disappointing at best and wait times due to everyone going to same place. Service was good not great. We can see they have lots more work to finish up the other tower despite being told it would be done in Feb, lol. The adults pool is nice but loungers come at a premium. The other pool is great as well. The lounge at night was nice and service fantastic. We enjoyed our stay and will return again but will check if specialty restaurant is open before doing AI.

We booked this based on reviews. Here is the good and the not so good as of April 25th 2026 Curb appeal- non, very dated and right off the main road- could be 100% improves with plants and lighting. Resort itself is ok- if you have done dreams or secrets you will be hugely disappointed. It’s small and not Amy real choices for dinning . The coffee shop is lame for deserts, pastries and the coffee is machine brewed not fresh . Snacks consist of fruit or salad. Rooms are ok, dates but there is a renovation going on too. The construction noise wasn’t a bother so that’s good. Water pressure in shower- lame. Room service- lane. Hotel staff are amazing and can’t do enough, 10/10 for that. The beach is beautiful honestly, cannot complain. A big frustration for me is not enough umbrellas to Loungers not even close so it’s hard to find shade. We came this week- end of season and it’s 45% full the hotel and we still can’t get a lounger with umbrella. Drinks at the lobby bar are nice. This is the only bar other than a pool bar which I don’t like in a plastic cup personally. I had a horrible nose bleed today and it was like 6am and pitch dark- I grabbed a towel on my bed to stop it over messing up the sheets- when we came back up after our ATV tour today I have a 100 peso invoice for the towel - not paying that. Would I come here again - no way- have I had an ok time- sure I have, it’s not horrible but it’s cost us close to $10,000 Canadian to be here this week as we have had to taxi everywhere and it’s really not worth it at all- not even close. There is better out there for sure. The evening entertainment and day time activities are pretty dated and cheap too.
