We picked Secrets Playa Blanca for a romantic getaway because of other great reviews we had seen and our experience honestly exceeded our (already high) expectations. The food and service at this resort are a mile ahead of other properties we’ve stayed at across Mexico. The property itself is gorgeous and every restaurant and bar was well thought-out. We love to relax on the beach and get in the ocean and this was one of the best beaches in Cancun to do that year-round. From start to finish, we felt like we had a personalized experience and would recommend Secrets Playa Blanca to anyone looking for a good beach, aesthetic concepts, and top tier service.

“A Fun Stay at Secrets Playa Blanca with a Few Areas to Improve”

We stayed at Secrets Playa Blanca for 5 nights in May. This was our third Secrets resort experience, as we’ve also stayed at Secrets Akumal and Impression Moxché. Overall, we had a great time and would likely return, mainly because of the food and entertainment. One of the biggest surprises was how good the food was. We genuinely enjoyed most of our meals, including a beach dinner one evening that was especially memorable. Coco Café also became part of our daily routine — coffee in the mornings and pretzels every night! The nightlife and entertainment were another highlight of the resort. There was usually a show at 9:00 p.m. followed by another fun activity around 9:45 p.m., which kept the evenings lively and enjoyable. The resort also had very nice pickleball courts, which we were excited about. However, we were disappointed that there were no organized pickleball activities or mixers for guests. It feels like that could be a really fun addition for players staying at the resort. The main area where the resort fell short for us was the pool and beach service. During the first few days at the pool, service was extremely slow. When we spent a day at the beach, service was basically nonexistent — we had to walk to the bar ourselves just to get water. We were also never greeted by a beach concierge, so we weren’t even sure if that service existed like it does at other Secrets resorts. However, on the last day of our stay, Jaime (the pool concierge) and Carlos (our waiter) completely changed our experience. They took amazing care of us all day and consistently checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. Their attentiveness really stood out and showed the level of service we were hoping for throughout the trip. One small piece of advice for future guests: if you enjoy playing Texas Hold ’em and are very competitive, just know that the pool games are more casual “for fun” games and not played strictly by standard rules. We learned that the hard way! This time we did not book a Preferred room, so it’s possible the beach and pool service may have been better in the Preferred areas. That said, I’m still not sure the additional cost would have been worth it. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay. The food and nighttime entertainment exceeded our expectations, and we would definitely consider returning. Hopefully the pool and beach service improves in the future because that was really the only downside of an otherwise great trip.
