The actual accommodation probably rates a three, but the staff and location were so favorable that we think it deserves a four. This is not a luxury place by any means, but it is in the middle of everything and close to anything one would wish to access in Playa Norte. Even the rooms on the street side were not too loud. The folks who work here are very nice and helpful. It is also handy to rent a golf cart on-site for a discounted rate to hotel guests.

A good option if you can't (or don't want to) pay "top dollar" on an island that's become ridiculously expensive. It's still an overpriced hotel IMO, but more reasonable than most. The staff are friendly, especially the young lady who works at the "front desk" (as of January 2023). I forget her name, but she is very sweet and kind! She was always smiling, waving, and made us feel welcome. She tried her best to understand our needs and help us, even though there's obviously a language barrier. She is MUCH nicer than the women who work at the golf car rental El Sol (in the same building). The only problem was our booking confirmation said "credit card accepted", but their machine wasn't working so we had to take out $16,000+ pesos at the ABM that cost a lot more in fees (multiple transactions). That was annoying and not what we agreed to. You can't flush toilet paper down the toilet because their sewage system can't handle it. So you have to dispose of "used toilet paper" in the trash can (lined with a plastic bag). THAT was a bit of a culture shock, but we got used to it. When we got to the airport and could flush toilet paper again, it did feel amazing though. lol Otherwise, our room (suite) was very big and felt clean, except the bathroom floor was a little dirty. The gentleman who cleans the room works hard. I just wish they'd add a "do not disturb" sign. We don't need our room cleaned or beds made very day. We just need clean towels and the trash (esp with "used toilet paper") emptied every day. There aren't as many towels as we normally get in a hotel either, only 2 bath towels, a hand towel and one for bathroom floor. No wash cloths, but it was OK. Not a big deal. The rooms are nicely updated (cute decor), but if you look closely, you can see that the remodel of the interior of the building was not done by "professionals" - there's paint splattered, uneven floor tiles, hole for sink faucet is too big, etc. There are some basic maintenance issues that could be addressed too, like the door handle on the bathroom door is broken, only one tap works for the bathroom sink, etc. The king-size bed was comfortable (pillow-top mattress). In fact, it was much more comfortable than the bed we had at an expensive resort! So we slept very well. The sheets were clean and soft. The pillows were good. The only problem is there were only 2 pillows and we like to sleep with 2 each. We asked for extra pillows, but the girl at the "front desk" didn't understand we meant "for the bed" and brought sofa cushions. That's OK. We survived. lol We'd recommend they put 4 pillows on a king-size bed though. The water pressure is very low. The Wi-Fi is useless. We could never stay online for long. The room had a nice, HUGE balcony. The view wasn't very appealing (roof tops of local homes and businesses), except the view of the stars and moon at night was wonderful! The only problem is there was only one balcony chair (we kept forgetting to ask for a 2nd chair, so just used one of the dining table chairs instead). The kitchen (fridge, stove, and set dining table) is a nice addition, but we had no intention of using anything other than the fridge. We ate out the entire time. The A/C worked well and helped drown out the noise of bands playing nearby at Hidalgo Street until 12 a.m. or early morning noise in and around the hotel. The location is very central - walking distance to many restaurants, bars, golf cart rentals, the ferry terminal, and beach clubs on the famous Playa Norte beach. We appreciated the "local" feel to the area too. We love the little streets on the island even though you have to watch out for people who drive carts, bikes or even taxis like idiots. For your convenience, you can rent a golf cart in the "lobby" of the hotel at El Sol Golf Car Rentals. I think the prices are ridiculous, but we loved renting the cart for the day to travel around the island. The El Sol golf carts are not in great condition or very easy to drive, but we had no problem with it breaking down. Also for your convenience, just a short walk down the street is a little laundry facility that will do a big load of laundry for you for approximately $10 USD. Our (small) load took longer than they said, so just be sure you don't need the clothes right away. We LOVE Isla Mujeres and we would probably stay here again, but not for more than 2 nights next time. We'd prefer a bit more "luxury" (to at least flush our toilet paper). lol

Bed was very comfortable. AC worked great. Rooms were clean. Language barrier a definite problem. But I had a Spanish app to try and use. Nothing fancy and nothing to really recommend for the price. BEWARE!!! We stayed in the suite on the top floor. THERE IS NO ELEVATOR! 😵‍💫lol so climbing the 9 flights of stairs (58 steps) was a bit much. Tjete is a rosery at the top banister which my husband touched and thanked Jesus evetytime he made it to the top. 😆😅🤣
