“Great Boutique Hotel!”

This place is very quaint and charming. You almost miss it if you are not paying attention. Thomas was great to work with. I highly recommend this centrally located boutique hotel!

First about the town of San Miguel: We visited Cozumel thinking it was a beach town—it is not. Most of the west side beaches are magna rock. There are private beaches around the island mostly at all inclusive hotels and there are “beach clubs” scattered around that have daily entrance fees to use their beach. The club fees usually include use of a beach chair, umbrella, sometimes drinks and/or food may be included in the fees, sometimes not. It gets very expensive. There are a few free beaches but If you stay in San Miguel, you have to rent a car to scooter or take a taxi to get there.$$! San Miguel is very touristy. You can’t walk on the streets without getting accosted by venders, taxis, tour guides, restaurants—everyone wants your money! And things are not inexpensive! Locals trying to earn a living will barter with you all day. Cruise boats dump hundreds of people daily and the market square is very busy but there’s no specialty shopping—just touristy stuff. If you don’t dive or snorkel, not sure why you would come to this place. The Flamingo Hotel is a cute boutique hotel located in central San Miguel, 3 blocks from the ferry dock, half a block from the diver boat launch and walking distant to the market square, many dive shops, car and scooter rentals and restaurants. Staff Oscar, Angela and Catalina were always smiling and helpful. Owner Tom was in and out and seems interested in making the hotel a special place. The rooms are lovely with tiled floors, comfortable beds, a/c, hot water. Wi-Fi was sketchy— in and out. The hotel could benefit from some TLC. Just some simple painting and decor updates and finish up some unfinished Reno projects would help. The website and online description of the hotel should be updated to current status as the restaurant is only open for breakfast (which is excellent!), no hot tub, bar was limited, pool was small. Couldn’t do laps but was refreshing after a day in the heat. We made a good time for ourselves but we don’t plan to visit again.

“Location is all this hotel has going for it”

Location is great for walking around town. Shower leaks all over the floor every time, lights flicker like a strobe light, no amenities and faucets are wired backwards. We told the owner several times and he said he was aware of all of it. He obviously doesn't care.
