A decent family resort with lots for kids to do. We stayed via a member so had Royal Elite access, which I believe made the stay much better. Staff were friendly and quick to respond to requests. We felt safe letting our kids wander a bit without us. We only used the RE pool, which was great and the kids favourite spot. The kids used the slide for about an hour on day 1 and didn’t want to go back again, they had fun but would rather play in the pool. Food: Buffet was always stocked, especially with fresh fruit and veggies which we loved. We only got stuck in a line to get in once but it moved pretty quickly. It’s your average resort buffet, don’t expect anything special. The beach snack bar was chaos the one time we went, was worth getting changed and going to the buffet rather than fight for some burgers and fries, that could be expanded, it’s a family resort and kids want a quick snack in the middle of the day. Besides the Japanese el a carte, they were nothing special and would have rather eaten at the buffet. Room service was really good and some of the best meals. Beach: although the RE beach has nice lounging area, there isn’t really a swimmable area at the resort. I think it goes with the Eco theme, but that’s part of why we go to Mexico, I can go to a pool anywhere. Rooms: we had a room with a bunk bed which I loved for the kids. It was decently clean, but the daily cleaning was really well done. I liked there was a jug of drinkable water for keeping bottles full. The wristband door keys were super convenient. Other: the animals roaming were cool to see and a favourite of the kids. Lots of free activities for kids and families, although we didn’t participate in much. The spa was lovely and they had kid friendly options. The resort was easy to navigate with lots of signage. Adult drinks were only ok. Overall it’s a good family resort, but maybe our kids were too old to enjoy it fully and I wouldn’t go there without kids. We didn’t experience anything people complained about in other reviews. I’m giving it a 5 star because it’s exactly as we expected it to be and the only negatives we experienced are just personal preferences and not a failing on the resort.

My husband, our 6 year old daughter and myself just got back from Sandos Eco Caracol yesterday. I was worried prior to going as the reviews were not great. My husband and I have been to Mexico 12 times so we figured we would try this resort out. Here are the pros and cons: Pros Its a different style of resort, it's very calm and relaxing. The walkways are lined with trees and nature. Tonnes of animals walking freely. It was nice to hear the birds and have shade as you toured around. Our balcony faced a mini forest so we had views of animals all throughout the day. The resort was very clean but keep in mind it's a nature resort so lots of leaves etc on the paths. We loved that there was a cenote on property, you could swim for free and it was open most days. Bring snorkel equipment! There is a suspension bridge, a mini river, small ruins etc on property so lots to explore. They have a small hobby farm on property too. The staff were wonderful. I felt they worked so hard and were sometimes understaffed. The theater was beautiful, comfortable seating and great shows. We took a cab to the sister resort (Playacar) it was $25 each way, it was a beautiful resort too. The beds were very comfortable. The room key is attached to your bracelet which was perfect! The room was decent, it lacked privacy however. We had the family room with a king bed and bunk beds all in one room. The washroom was open, no door. The shower had a frosted glass door and the toilet had a solid door. Room service is available all day/night. The menu was ok but atleast it was an option. It took forever for them to answer the to order however. We always found a pool chair, it didn't matter what time of day. The beach sand was beautiful but it was very rocky, lots of beach chairs at the beach. Food overall was decent. We always found something to eat. My husband loved the abundance of seafood and meats. The set up at the main buffet was awful though, it is one big line. They should have had different stations to help the flow. There were line ups but we never waited more than 10 minutes. CONS Checking in was quite slow. Thankfully there wasn't a lot of us, I couldn't imagine how long it would take if there was. There is a store on property. Our daughter had a sore stomach the one day so we bought goldfish crackers, they charged us $18 American dollars. Bring your own snacks! Booking the A LA Carte restaurants was brutal. You had to go on the app at 12am and in 2 seconds they were booked. We finally got a booking for the tempo the day before we left (which was amazing). It is by far the worst set up we have ever encountered. The lunch snack bar by the main pool was very plain. The lunch buffet had more options. This resort has ramps etc however there was so much uneven ground it would be harder for someone with a walker etc to get around. The pools were ok. The water was cloudy but the pools are not tiled, they were concrete so it didn't help. The fridge in the room was stocked every other day with pop and beer. They do not have water bottles, they have a large water jug in each room. I didn't like this, they gave you a few glasses but I would have preferred water bottles. Overall it was a relaxing trip. It's not a 5 star resort but it had a lot of neat perks. Again its a different style of resort which was actually a nice change.
