Overall Impression Given the consistently high standards of cleanliness, organisation, and overall comfort, it is difficult to understand why the hotel’s review scores are not higher. While it may not appeal to those seeking a lively, entertainment-led resort, it delivers exactly what it promises: a refined, peaceful, and well-managed stay. From arrival through to departure, the hotel felt calm, spacious, and professionally run. Communal areas are modern and well presented, and the atmosphere is quietly confident rather than busy or commercial. Rooms The bedrooms are comfortable, well proportioned, and thoughtfully equipped with the usual amenities, including an iron, safe, and toiletries. The bed was particularly comfortable and contributed to a very good night’s sleep. The television offers a solid selection of English, Arabic, and European channels. Housekeeping standards were consistently high throughout our stay. Dining We ate at several of the on-site restaurants, including breakfast, and enjoyed every meal. Food quality was consistently good, and service was efficient without feeling rushed. The hotel also recommended A Ruína, a traditional fish restaurant located at Praia dos Pescadores. This proved to be an excellent recommendation, offering high-quality seafood in a fantastic beachfront setting and is well worth a visit. In addition, a number of restaurants, a bar/pub, and a supermarket are located directly opposite the resort entrance. These are easily walkable even from the furthest points of the resort, providing convenient off-site dining options. Spa and Swimming Pools The hotel features two indoor swimming pools alongside well-appointed spa facilities. The adults-only spa opens from 10:00am and is located in the Ocean Suites area. This spa is particularly worth visiting; during our visits it was exceptionally quiet, and we had it entirely to ourselves each time, which made for a very relaxing experience. It is worth noting that swimming caps are required for female guests in the indoor family pool. This requirement does not apply in the adults-only spa pool. No explanation was provided for the difference, but guests may wish to be aware of this in advance. Facilities and Grounds The hotel grounds are extensive, beautifully maintained, and extremely well manicured, creating a strong sense of space and privacy across the resort. A dedicated children’s arcade room is located a short distance from, and within clear line of sight of, the main restaurant and garden area. This makes it particularly suitable for families with older children, allowing parents to enjoy a meal or a glass of wine while children are safely occupied nearby. The resort also features a stunning viewpoint at the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea. Access is via a lift operated by room keycard, with the option to use the adjacent footpath if preferred. This is a standout feature and well worth visiting. Location and Parking The hotel is approximately a 30-minute drive from the airport and can be accessed entirely via non-toll roads, which is helpful for those hiring a car. Parking is straightforward, with free on-site parking available as well as a valet parking service. Practical Notes Reception is unmanned overnight and opens from 8:00am. Guests planning to depart before this time are advised to settle their bill the evening prior to avoid any inconvenience. Areas for Improvement Only minor cosmetic issues were noted, with some light wear and marking visible in places. These are superficial rather than functional and do not detract from the overall experience, though addressing them would bring the physical presentation fully in line with the hotel’s otherwise high standards. Final Verdict The Pines Hotel delivers a calm, high-quality stay with excellent facilities, generous grounds, and a genuinely relaxing atmosphere. It strikes a strong balance between adult tranquillity and thoughtful family-friendly features. With only minimal attention needed in cosmetic areas, it comfortably merits a strong four-star rating and, in many respects, approaches five-star standards.

Beautiful Location but Limited Dining Options in Spring Pine Cliffs is set in a truly spectacular location. The beach is gorgeous, and the dramatic cliffs and ocean views make the setting very special. The property itself is beautiful and well maintained, and the rooms are spacious and well appointed. Breakfast each morning was elaborate with a wide variety of options, and the staff across the resort were friendly and welcoming. The concierge team was also very helpful and responsive whenever we needed assistance. However, visiting in the spring — which the resort considers off-season — came with some disappointments. Despite the hotel having a good number of guests, only one restaurant on the property was open out of the five or six dining venues available. The restaurant that was open, Maré, also had a very limited menu and closed by 5 pm. Guests therefore missed out on enjoying fresh catch seafood options on the property and were unable to have dinner there. As a result, every evening after enjoying the beautiful sunset, guests had to rush out to nearby towns to find dinner options. For a resort of this scale and caliber, it felt like a missed opportunity and somewhat inconvenient for guests who were hoping to enjoy dining within the property. Overall, Pine Cliffs has a stunning setting, excellent staff, and a lovely breakfast, but the limited restaurant availability during our stay took away from what could otherwise have been a more relaxing resort experience.

This was my second time staying at the Pine Cliffs resort. I liked it so much I decided to come back and brought my family along too. We stayed for 5 nights in August in a 2 bed Ocean view Suite. The room had everything we needed and was extremely spacious. The food at the on site restaurants was good but overpriced in my opinion. They know they have a captive market and the pricing reflects that. Service staff were all lovely and very attentive and accommodating, could not fault them. It’s a lovely resort and we had a great holiday however the front desk team and their interaction with guests needs to improve. We arrived at the resort at 12pm and check in time is 4pm. The reception staff said they would call us when our room was ready however they did not offer us a temporary room or anything complimentary whilst we waited. We finally got our room at 5, the reception kept delaying the expected time it would take and later revealed that the previous occupants trashed the room. I wish they told me at the start that it would take a long time to get the room ready as I kept going back to them for updates. Normally this wouldn’t annoy me so much but the dismissive tone of the reception staff and lack of any customer service really annoyed me considering how expensive this resort is. A quick note on having a 4pm check in. It’s quite late but becoming more common. Other hotels will make their guests feel welcome no matter when they arrive as they understand guests come a long way and are usually tired after a long journey. Not this place though, they will make you feel like you ruined their day by asking when the room will be ready. The second thing that spoilt what was a great holiday was the front desk asking for payment on room charges. This hotel will call you every day to clear room charges that have built up with drinks and meals etc they will randomly stop your ability to charge things to your room and have you go to reception to pay. This is not like every other hotel I have stayed at around the world where you settle the bill at the end. It’s like an accountant is in charge of the guest experience and not hospitality professionals. Shocking for such a hugely expensive resort.
