Vila Balaia - Luxury Boutique Villas

We had the pleasure of staying at Quinta da Balaia for a week last month. First things first - it's easy to get to, & was about a 45 minute drive from Faro airport. We arranged a transfer through the booking company, & our driver was waiting for us at Arrivals. Once we got to the villa we couldn't believe how big it was - there are actually 2 separate buildings, with the main house sleeping up to 8 people, & the 2nd house being a good sized double room with its own ensuite bathroom. This was perfect, as we travelled with our parents & they could retire to the peace & quiet of their own area whenever they felt like it. Everybody was happy. 😎 The facilities were excellent with a gorgeous outdoor pool - Thst was about 8-10 foot at the deep end, & a sectioned off shallow end (perfect for younger kids) There was also a separate hot tub/jacuzzi, & the pool area also included table tennis & various games. The entertainment continued in the main house with a pool table & a massive flatscreen TV. The local town - Olos d'agua, was about 2 KMs way. It is walkable, but the road condition isn't great. Hiring a car is definitely advisable. The local restaurants & bars were excellent - everywhere we tired was great, from traditional to Asian, with seafood being particularly good. Albufeira is a couple of KMs further away, & it's a lot bigger with more a Clubbing/Pubbing crowd. One last thing that has to be noted: Pedro. He works for the villa company as a driver/adviser/general 'fixer' - essentially he's a local legend. Nothing was too much trouble, & he genuinely made our holiday even better that it already was. Thanks Pedro - you're the MAN! In a nutshell: Amazing villa, good location & super helpful friendly people. HIGHLY recommended.

The Villa itself is fantastic, extremely spacious and well equipped. The pool and outside space are wonderful again with all the beds, chairs and tables you could possibly want for a large family. Quinta Da Balaia, is an aging holiday resort and little tired in places, but is quiet and the shop is well priced and the bar provides affordable and tasty meals. The are issues with the Villa, it is tired and I have seen on other reviews similar comments about the bathrooms, they are functional, but some money needs to be spent refurbishing them. The pool itself is massive and cleaned every day, again a little tired as is the outside area. It just needs the odd jobs sorting out, rather than leaving them to get worse. I must say that the two massive trees which are adjacent to the property do cover the pool and outside area in shade until about 2pm, which I must admit was frustrating, im not sure if they could at least be thinned out to allow mores sunshine? The only real complaint I have is the lack of Air Conditioning, that was a real nuisance, with only having fans in the room, it did get extremely uncomfortable at times. Even if the owners just had AC in the bedrooms, it would make a massive difference. This for me sets the villa apart from others I would look at in the future. All in all we had a fantastic time with plenty of quality time spent with the family in the Villa, I would definitely recommend it, but I urge the owners to look at investing some money into the villa, to bring it back to the standard it deserves.
