For the price you pay here it's a great deal, yes it's a bit dated but every member of staff I spoke to were polite and friendly, they all spoke good English and they were happy to help with anything I needed. The beds are comfortable enough, the wifi is excellent around the whole hostel, the mens shower room/toilet is a bit run down but was always clean when I visited, always hot water, the breakfast buffet was always served on time and had a good spread, the beds were clean. For a solo traveller it was very welcoming and a great price, with excellent location to bars and the beach, highly recommended!

“Fantastic value ”

Basic but spotlessly clean with great staff. The staff were always happy to chat and pass on local information. Breakfast was a bit limited on choice but what they had was was good. The terrace was nice, plenty of tables and chairs and for most of the day has both sun and shade.

This place grows on you - give it a chance. If you're looking for cheap accommodation in Faro, you won't do better. OK, so it isn't quaint or charming; it feels municipal, rather like spending the night in a sports centre. However, the location is good (we used it as a base to explore the whole of Faro on foot) and most of the staff are extremely helpful and pleasant. The rooms, linen, towels and bathrooms are kept lovely and clean. Other reviewers have criticised the breakfast but we enjoyed the fresh bread rolls every day (plus ham, cheese, jams, coffee, cereal and yoghurt) and never went hungry. Yes, the kitchen area for self-catering is laughably tiny - there's definitely not enough room to swing a cat; it's something of a challenge to wield a fairly modest wooden spoon in there, to be honest - but we managed to rustle up a couple of meals, nonetheless. And yes, the novelty of hearing the unearthly wails of peacocks from the neighbouring park soon wears off. We're experienced backpackers and we ended up spending almost two weeks at the hostel, despite having anticipated moving on. We found that other places charged twice as much for comparable facilities and, sitting on the spacious sun terrace with a drink while we watched the sun go down, knowing we were paying less than 30 Euros per night for safe, clean, decent accommodation, we were perfectly happy.

The breakfast was the same as all other HI-pousadas I stayed in in Portugal. Nothing fancy but ok for the price. Unfortunately, the bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable. There was no mattress topper or extra padding, just a basic box spring or metal spring mattress that offered no support or softness. I woke up every morning with back pain and did not sleep well during my stay. I really hope they consider upgrading their beds in the future! Location is really nice, next to a park, a big supermarket (but the hostel kitchen is the size of a slice of toast…) and just a short stroll from old town Faro. Easy parking, safe area. Cheap.
