Beautiful characterful old buildings set in a delightful garden. We stayed in a separate small building, but rooms are available in the old house. Plenty of room to sit outside. Lovely buffet breakfast, inside or outside. View of National Palace and Fort from the gardens (as seen in photos) and they are both within walking distance, although the fort is at the top of the hill so takes a while.

I wanted an authentic stay for our two nights in Sintra and Casa Holstein provided it. A beautiful estate in the heart of this magical town with onsite parking, easy access to fabulous restaurants literally right outside the gates and a 10-minute walk to the train station. One caveat, I booked a garden villa as it sounded ideal and away from the main part of the hotel. When it says STAIRS, they aren’t kidding….likely 100++ stairs every time you leave/return, some at a decent incline. Well…we got our exercise, especially bringing luggage in/out. And with the authentic stay comes a few drawbacks—air conditioning is only in the bedroom so the outer room and bathroom is warm. Summertime must be a challenge as our weather was cooler. And the bathroom lighting is VERY minimal so ladies, forget the makeup! And the furniture is worn, as in dirty. Time to replace as it takes away from the charm. Too busy to use the pool or even have breakfast each day with scheduled tours. I’d recommend this estate, just stay in the main buildings unless you want your cardio! Sintra is lovely, enjoy!

This is a stunning place, located perfectly for touring Sintra. Its quintessential European, like from a mid-centaury movie. We had a huge semi basement room that was kitted out beautifully with great toiletries, his and hers dressing gowns, towelling slippers, mini bar fully kitted out: there was a smell of damp - management could try and put something perfumed in to help keep it at bay. We didn't use the pool, it looked like it needed some tlc to be honest, we were busy sightseeing so it didn't bother us but it doesn't look like the website photos. Loads of parking. Gated, you need a code to get in and out which you get once you are in. Skip breakfast and go to the town, (we had it once as its simply a stunning place sit and enjoy a coffee), very basic, no hot offerings and better options just outside the gates. I suspect its very expensive to keep this place afloat - its good value for what they charge and if you can overlook some of the estates upkeep issues around the building and pool you will love it.

The hotel area was very nice, the staff really kind. There were a lot of parking places and also a lot of stairs if you sleep in the garden villa as we did.
