We had good time at the Vila! The location is not too far from funchal city center and if you need there somes bus that lead you there for few euro.The staff was friendly and helpfull.When I read somes past review I think some are super unfair and irrevelant. The comfort was there and the staff in our case was not rude at all.They were helpfull while we asked info regarding some hike like sao lorenzo. The pool was perfect and seem bigger in real life then in the picture. The only little thing its the breakfast is manage by the staff since the covid but we were aware of it. It was good btw. There no service full time there as the reception closed I think at 17h00 but if you contact them before they will be able to help you with the check in and all. Muito Obrigado!

I found Vila Lusitania by accident and I am so pleased I did. Situated about 20 minutes walk from the marina, the Vila is situated within a residential area at the top of a hill. Don’t let this put you off as it is definitely worth it. The view out over the roof tops to the sea is stunning especially as the sun is rising. I was lucky enough to have a sea view from my room which was lovely to wake up to in the morning. The rooms are simple, rustic, well decorated, a good size and very comfortable bed. The bathroom is a good size with a good powerful hot shower. Entrance to my room was through a double glass and wooden door patio entrance situated behind a heavy curtain on the inside and double shutter doors on the outside. Throughout my stay, I slept so well as it was so quiet. The staff are friendly and helpful. From the minute I arrived, staff could not do enough to make me feel welcome, my stay comfortable or help me with directions, advice and tips of places and restaurants to visit during my short stay. Breakfast is excellent with a good variety including of fruit, bread, croissants ham cheese and a small hot selection. The coffee was great! Being able to eat breakfast on the terrace looking over the sea in the warm sun was fabulous. The hotel has a small heated pool which is nice to have a dip in after a day of sightseeing. If you are looking for a comfortable, quiet, friendly little hotel with outstanding customer service then look no further than Vila Lusitania. I really this cannot recommend this fabulous little hotel highly enough.

Vila Lusitania is a very interesting place to stay. Unlike any other we have been to, so far. I would describe it as a mixture between a small hotel, and a hostel. We were a family of three, we got a studio room with four beds, a bathroom and a kitchen area with a fridge, a sink, plates, cups and the lot. The room was spacious and nice. However, since we were on the ground floor, and not on the first floor, we didn’t have our own balcony, but instead a terrace, where people walked past at night. So it was a bit noisy. For me, it wasn’t a problem because I sleep really well, but my mom didn’t like it. There are younger people staying there, hiking groups, and when they come back from the town after having drinks there at night, well, it can be a bit loud. Also, the hotel is located on a hillside. The views from the breakfast area and the terraces are amazing! You sit there and see the ocean. Also from the little salt water pool you see the ocean. It’s really beautiful! But, you need to walk up there every afternoon or evening when coming back from trips. It took about ten minutes. This was a bit exhausting. We are all strong walkers so it was not too bad. Alternatively you can take a taxi, there are taxis at the bus stop on the main road, the taxi would only take three minutes or so. We always walked. It’s good for your health, anyway. Staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful, and breakfast was very nice. Not a huge choice, but very good, super delicious fresh fruit juices and very good scrambled eggs! Overall, I can absolutely recommend the place, but as I said, it’s a bit special and not suitable for everyone. A big thanks to Vila Lusitania for giving us a very nice holiday experience!

First off we were pleasantly surprised with this hotel and its amazing surroundings. The staff were very pleasant and the accommodations were decent, but a little dated. The bed could have been a little softer and there was no air conditioning in the room, which made it hard to get a good night sleep. I highly recommended booking a room with a view, which is really spectacular!
