“Perfect hotel”

After a 12 hour overnight flight we were welcomed at 9am, most hotels rooms are not available until after 3pm however we were directed to the restaurant for breakfast while our room was being readied. The staff made dinner reservations and the shuttle took us to Cape Town waterfront.

“Fantastic location and set up for a family”

This hotel was perfect for a family of five. The two-bedroom apartment fit all of us, with space to spare. We loved the two-level set up and the private balcony was a big plus. This hotel was perfect for a family of five. The two-bedroom apartment fit all of us, with space to spare. We loved the two-level set up and the private balcony was a big plus. The kitchen was fully stocked with dishes, water, coffee, tea, cocktails and wine. The Kloof Street location was unbeatable and the staff stood ready to assist us at all times, including communicating with our tour guide as to timing and with our driver over an item left behind. The lobby is absolutely beautiful, with a lovely honor bar in the evening. The biggest plus: an absolutely delicious and fresh breakfast each morning starting at 7 am. The cold bar was incredible, with local offerings, and the full hot breakfast menu also impressed. They serve a fabulous cup of coffee and with a smile!

“A great place to stay!”

We really liked this charming small neighborhood hotel. The neighborhood is trendy, packed with shops, bars, cool restaurants. Our room, which was up a flight of stairs, was very quiet and spacious. We really liked this charming small neighborhood hotel. The neighborhood is trendy, packed with shops, bars, cool restaurants. Our room, which was up a flight of stairs, was very quiet and spacious. We had a tiny balcony (but it was too chilly to sit out there), a large dining area, small sitting area and very nice bedroom with a good bathroom. The gym, at the adjoining property, was small but functional. The breakfast was excellent. There's an afternoon tea with cake each day, and wine is available in the lobby (but you have to write your name down so you can be charged). We'd definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wanted something charming and not bland and corporate.

More Quarters offers apartment-style lodging tucked away on a side street in a lively part of Cape Town. The small street is lined with charming two-story buildings, each housing two lower and two upper apartments. I stayed in a one-bedroom unit that was tastefully furnished. The combined living room and kitchen area included a refrigerator, stove, and coffee maker, with ample lighting that gave the space a cheery, welcoming feel. A separate toilet room complemented the main bathroom, which featured double sinks, a spacious shower, and a tub. Interestingly, a window in the bathroom opened into the bedroom—perhaps charming to some, odd to others. The king-sized bed was comfortable, although I had to remove the winter-weight duvet from its cover. South Africa is quite warm at this time of year, and I’m never sure why so many hotels provide bedding better suited for a mountain cabin in winter. Both the living room and bedroom had in-wall air conditioners. The bedroom unit was located directly over the bed, blowing air onto my head. Pre-cooling the room and turning the unit off at night proved to be a workable solution. The street was fairly quiet, though I did hear some late-night revelers. Better soundproofing would improve the experience. There was a mix-up at the front desk, and staff mistakenly believed I was scheduled to check out at 6:00 AM. I was startled awake by someone running up the stairs and attempting to enter the apartment. (While front doors are locked, staff have keys.) Moments later, they phoned and woke my partner. Once the confusion was resolved, I was fully awake—so I decided to make coffee. That’s when I discovered the circuit powering the stove, coffee maker, and refrigerator wasn’t working. I reported it and headed across the street for the included hotel breakfast. By the time I returned, the issue had been fixed. Despite the early wake-up and electrical hiccup, the staff were pleasant, and the overall experience was enjoyable. The location, design, and amenities make More Quarters a charming place to stay—with a little room for improvement in communication and infrastructure.
