A beautiful property with a genuinely calming atmosphere, let down primarily by inconsistent food and an oversold "The One" experience. Overall still a satisfying stay, largely thanks to staff who try hard. What we loved: The grounds are an attraction in themselves. The whole hotel is scented, and walking through the main entrance you're met with a view out to the sea and sunbeds in the distance, plus a self-pour drink in the arrival lounge - it sets the mood immediately. The boho-chic setting, adults-only policy, slow pace around the beach and pool, and focus on small, sustainable local producers all deliver convincingly on the "Slow movement" theme the hotel promotes. If anything, I'd lean into this more as a hotel - it's clearly a strength. A few specific highlights: The gym is genuinely beautiful, overlooking the loungers, pool and sea. The only gripe: it needs more weight increments in the mid-range and a few heavier options. Sunset at the Tavira rooftop bar is fantastic. The buffet is varied and strong, with excellent local products: cold cuts, wines, bakery items and more. Location is excellent: quiet surrounding streets with plenty of free on-street parking (no need for the hotel's paid parking unless you're arriving in a supercar), a brisk 10-minute coastal walk into Conil's centre, and a beautiful azure-water beach just minutes away. Service Overall quite good, with friendliness the clear strength. Staff make a point of pouring drinks in front of you rather than bringing a pre-poured glass — we particularly appreciated visibly seeing a 0.0% Tanqueray poured, as my spouse couldn't drink alcohol for part of the trip. That said, the selection of alcohol-free beverages on the all-inclusive list could be improved — a wider range would have been welcome. When we had an allergic reaction during the stay, front-desk staff gave us the information we needed quickly and in very good English, which we appreciated. Beyond that, though, there was no real follow-up — just a rather artificial enquiry about how the allergy was doing when we checked in for our dinner reservation. For an issue of this nature, a more genuine check-in would have gone a long way. Food was the main disappointment, and didn't live up to expectations, in two ways. Misadvertised dishes: A "burrata" salad arrived with mozzarella; a "cannelloni" was actually a single large sheet of lasagna; a "ceviche" was pan-seared fish on sauce rather than citrus-cured. Drinks too - the only red wine served by the glass on the all-inclusive list at Roots was a Tempranillo mislabelled "Cloe Chardonnay" - chardonnay being a white. Ordering food was largely hit-and-miss, which is a shame because other dishes were pretty good. I'd suggest for the hotel to simplify and work on the quality of the menu. Fewer, but higher-quality food items. On a related note, some of the pastries and baked products at breakfast appeared rather stale and hard, almost as if they were a day old. Service slips at the restaurant: Across the stay we had several issues with food or drinks not being delivered, or wrong orders being taken: a bottle of wine never delivered, a glass of wine never delivered, a dish left at the wrong table that reached us late and cold, a wrong pizza, etc. - the list goes on. A specific red-wine episode was telling: after the mislabelled menu led to a Chardonnay being brought, I sent it back, was passed between staff, and eventually another waitress fetched the correct red herself - a commendable effort on her part, but the erroneous Chardonnay taken by the original waitress still appeared on our bill at checkout, outside the all-inclusive package. We ended up eating out in Conil and Vejer repeatedly despite being all-inclusive, and frankly ate better outside the hotel than in. Recommendations: Catalina and Malataba in Conil, 4 Estaciones in Vejer. "The One" was oversold: The lounge itself is a pleasant indoor retreat, continuously stocked with good-quality food and drink. However, two caveats: the food buffet on display wasn't cooled despite including meat, dairy and fish (we never got sick, but I'd expect refrigeration for safety), and the newspapers/magazines advertised online were either minimal and low-quality or (most likely) already raided by other hotel guests by the time we arrived. The broader "The One" package, though, felt significantly oversold. The "VIP check-in" was identical to a standard one - door cards and nothing more, no escort to the room. We were never told about the tennis court, ironing service, yoga mat or late check-out that are supposedly included, and received no welcome or parting gift (unless a small tote bag counts). What's not included in all-inclusive is worth knowing upfront: - Daia Beach (the beachside bar) is not included; sunbeds are reservable for a fee (around €12/day). - Tavira rooftop food is not included and we found it overpriced - eight maki pieces for €22, when you can eat a feast of fish at a Conil restaurant for the price of a meal here. A bit disappointing given it sells itself as a "sea grill gastronomic experience." One more poolside note: a lot of guests reserved sunbeds by draping towels over them early and then disappearing for hours. The hotel should be stricter about enforcing this - it's frustrating for those actually wanting to use them. Language Much of the staff caters fluently to the large German clientele on the Costa de la Luz. As English-speakers we managed, but English fluency was patchy — even at the front desk, where a receptionist at check-in mistakenly told us "The One" lounge could only be visited once (untrue). We also weren't given our room number on arrival, just the entry cards, and had to specifically ask for it to be written on the card pocket. Our welcome email supposedly had that information, but it arrived in French - a kind gesture toward one of our country's languages, though not the one we speak; asking first, or defaulting to English, would have been better. None of this is dealbreaking: staff consistently go out of their way to help despite the barrier. But we would expect better multilingualism (i.e. English) from the type of establishment this hotel is portraying to be. A useful heads-up on the restaurants - the website lists the restaurants as if they're distinct venues; mostly they aren't: Maam / Origin / Roots are one location, renamed by time of day (Maam for breakfast) and by menu/wing for dinner (Origin or Roots). Calamar is separate, by the pool, for lunch. Cala lounge sits opposite Origin and is a cocktail bar; its food comes from the same kitchen as Roots/Origin, just a smaller menu. None of this is an issue, but it does place some perspective on how to perceive the overall food experience. Two small billing notes: a €1 "donation" appeared at checkout with no explanation of the cause, and checkout itself was slow - tip: use the express check-out option (we missed the email about it). Based on our visit we draw the following conclusions: Daia Slow Beach is a gorgeous, relaxing property that nails atmosphere, setting and location, with warm staff who genuinely try. If the kitchen and restaurant service were tightened up and "The One" delivered what it promises, this would be an easy recommendation. As it stands, it's a lovely stay best enjoyed by leaning on the grounds and pool, and restaurants in surrounding areas, rather than the hotel's dining. Anyone expecting a true luxury experience will - despite the scenery and location - need to adjust expectations around the food and some of the services on offer. We'd happily return in a few years, hoping some of these issues have been ironed out by then.

We had a pleasant stay here but there we some issues. I feel this review warrants 3.5 stars. Firstly, we were promised a welcome drink before we arrived via email, that did not happen. The waiting time at reception after a 4 hour drive was also annoying. The other thing I must mention is that we were given no directions around the hotel (it's massive) so we got lost after the receptionist did not write our room number down on the key card holder. We ended up having to call the receptionist off our mobile to help us find our way. We were also not told breakfast times or where breakfast was and had to find that ourselves. The aircon is also not great in the rooms. Apart from this, it was a good stay, the room was good, the breakfast was ok and the pool was nice.
