We travelled to the hotel for a week just looking for spring break in the sunshine - what we got was so much more. Fuerte el Rompido is a really well designed and run hotel, set in beautiful gardens with terraces of sun loungers and cabanas overlooking great swimming pools. There is also a great indoor pool. Rooms are spacious and spotless, with everything you need including a safe (€3 per day) The meals are all buffet style with drinks served by the staff, great variety pretty much every meal. We were all inclusive, drinks choice was very good, including some non or low alchohol options. The staff are all amazing, everyone from the reception staff, cleaners, restaurant staff and the bar team - you couldn’t ask for better. This is probably the best holiday hotel we have stayed at, and there have been many. We are already booked to go back next spring. To cap it off the village of El Rompido is a fishing village which attracts many locals, and has a number of really good restaurants and decent quality shops. Not an English bar or trashy gift shop in sight which was great. Can’t wait to go back.

“Lovely hotel”

What a lovely hotel with superbly maintained gardens. I thoroughly enjoyed my week here. Always plenty of sunbeds at any time of day. Excellent relaxing adult pool. Spacious, quiet and clean rooms. What a lovely hotel with superbly maintained gardens. I thoroughly enjoyed my week here. Always plenty of sunbeds at any time of day. Excellent relaxing adult pool. Spacious, quiet and clean rooms. Only a few minutes walk into the little village and just a short boat ride to a superb unspoiled beach. Special mention to the lovely Elena on reception who was extremely kind and helpful. I have given 4 stars instead of 5 because the food variety and quality could be better. However this did not spoil my stay and I would love to return here.

I spent a week here in May on a Saga all-inclusive holiday, a friend arrived later on a different flight. Chris, the Saga Rep was friendly and informative. He made himself available far more, I believe, than he had to. He enjoys his job and it shows. Hotel and Room Spotlessly clean, inside and out. My room was on the 4th floor, the same level as the indoor pool, buffet restaurant and bar, and the terrace outside. I had a balcony looking out over the nearby gold course and wetlands. I had requested a walk in shower as I have arthritis in my knees and this was granted. There is a kettle and cups and a couple of small bottles of water in the fridge. I am not inclined to use the kettle and such, but if I wanted to, coffee, tea etc was all available in the buffet. The bar staff give out replacement water bottles on request. Though I only wanted it when going out side, as I happily drink the water in Spain. Buffet Beautifully laid out and plenty of choice at all the meals. I missed having a choice of fresh prepared fruit at breakfast, as much of it was canned pears and fruit salad. The cooked food was hot and freshly made and I thought there was a good choice. Staff, All I can say is they were all faultless. Reception staff were welcoming and helpful. Reception is just up in the lift to the fifth floor. Staff smiled as i walked past. Staff in the buffet asked what drink I wanted almost before I sat down. My friend had requested a ground floor room and this was given. However, it was a bit of distance from the main facilities. She is 85 and was still recovering from a hip replacement. went with her to reception and cannot speak too highly of how kind and thoughtful the young lady on reception dealt with her request. She was given a room near the lift on the sixth floor, above reception ,and arrangements were made to move her belongings. Perfectly handled and stress free. Pools The large pool was too chilly for me to swim in, though I did see folk swimming and there is an abundance of sunbeds. I enjoyed a swim in the indoor pool instead each day before going to my room to shower. This was lovely except for one occasion, when there were half a dozen young unaccompanied children around the age of 8-10 having a wonderful time jumping in all round the pool. Two other ladies left and I didn’t stay long as there was no escape and at 77 and a sedate swimmer, I did not feel secure as the children paid me no regard. There are signs all round the pool stating no diving or jumping in and disappointingly, the lifeguard was watching the whole time. As I was getting dry to leave, having cut my swim short, a man arrived and called them all out!!! Other than that the pool was very pleasant. Surrounds I have stayed in this area though in different hotels on 4 previous occasions and had done the various tours. So for this week, I was content to stay at the hotel. I did go for a walk on the boardwalk path a way into the wetland section. A lovely refreshing walk. I did not see any birds of note, but did see the amazing tiny crabs which can clearly be seen from the boardwalk. When walking back to the hotel, I detoured into the little thatched shopping section and made a couple of purchases. OverallA lovely hotel, I was very comfortable and can certainly recommend this hotel for a relaxing holiday in lovely surroundings with attentive staff.

We stayed for 14 nights on a SAGA all-inclusive package. The hotel is lovely, very clean, with excellent staff & in a great location. It’s not a busy tourist area & there are lots of walks possible straight from the hotel as well as beaches & boat trips. The room was large & comfortable with a balcony over looking the gardens. Our main problem was being vegetarian. All meals were buffet style. We did enquire beforehand with both SAGA & the hotel directly that we were vegetarian & were assured that was not a problem. The breakfasts & lunches were fine but there is no labelling to show what is veggie. Things were often labelled as veg or cheese something but actually had ham or tuna or pieces of sausage mixed in. Even the potato salad had ham in it one day but not another but with the same label. Our main problem was the main course at diner. On the first few nights there was only spaghetti with a tomato sauce. The second night we made a complaint & the chef showed us there were sautéed mushrooms with onion & potato wedges. When I explained that was not really a meal he asked us what we wanted & offered to cook it. That night we had an Omlette. The same thing happened the following night when the pizza had ham on it & everything else was meat or fish. Again the chef made us a veggie pizza which obviously took time & was delivered to our table with no word said, just put down. The SAGA host Chris was excellent after we explained our problem. He obviously pulled some strings & we met with the catering manager & head chef. The manager was fine but it appeared that the head chef was either completely disinterested or couldn’t really see the problem. Things then improved with one thing each night we could have. The feedback from a lady who was coeliac was similar to ours. Other SAGA guests we spoke to described the food as canteen or upmarket school diners & generally thought it was disappointing & repetitive. The catering was to a budget not a standard. There was very little local produce used, which in an area which grows loads of fresh fruit, strawberries & blueberries, was a real disappointment. Most of the fruit at breakfast was canned. In an international hotel where a majority of guests, when we were present, were from the UK or Germany we expected better. It’s such as shame that our holiday was made difficult & stressful when a few changes in labelling & an understanding that not every salad or main needs to have meat or fish in it could have made a difference. Being facetious it would appear that ham is seen as a condiment alongside pepper & salt & not really an ingredient which could offend.
