“Definitely not 5*”

Just spent 2 weeks at this hotel. The pool area is lovely the grounds around the pool are very well tended. It was so nice to relax and soak up the sun without music or pool activities going on, This area is definitely the best part of the hotel plus the young lady who served at the pool bar was very efficient. The rooms although spotless are very dated and definitely need upgrading. Walk in showers would be a plus. What lets the hotel down is the restaurant. The service is very chaotic and at times non existent . Waited 45mins for my main course on one night. It wasn’t even worth the wait. Waiting staff just don’t now what they are doing. Had the same menu choice for our second week and also for the gala evening Surely a hotel that rates itself 5* can do better than this. I will give a special mention to Lena who was very helpful and always had a smile. Breakfasts not very exciting either, Bar staff excellent, so no complaints there. The curtesy bus into Ciutadella twice a day is a lovely idea. Summing up we had a lovely holiday in Cala’n Bosch but due to the bad service in the restaurant and the quality of the rooms this a hotel we won’t be returning too.

This is one of the most difficult Tripadvisor reports that I have written with regard to this Hotel, as previously I have consistently rated it as 5*. In my opinion it now rates as 5* for the clean pool, garden surrounds, quality sun-beds, the amazing Housekeeping staff, and the high class beds. Bar staff are also as pleasant and efficient as their workload permits. This drops to just about a 4* for the room amenities, with no personal toiletries apart from wall mounted ones, and no modern electrical support for todays technology. Rooms are very clean with quality bedding, but all wardrobes and fittings are very time worn. Basic English TV channels are available. Very sadly, the restaurant now can barely gather a 2* rating .It is designated as a ‘Gourmet’ experience Serious issues with food ordering and delivery, often receiving incorrect dishes; and a time mix-up between the soup course and cold buffet, with dishes arriving when guests are still eating the previous course. The quality and visual appearance of dishes has seriously deteriorated, and the whole menu is totally repeated in the second week, if you are a guest staying for more than seven days. This is even the case for the ‘celebrated’ Gala Night menu ! Wines ordered at the start of a meal often not received until half way through the meal, and even worse wines requested suddenly being out of stock. Two seniors, returning to this hotel for their 5th year were delighted with the welcome received, and the fact that they received the Room that they had requested earlier. Small gifts in our room, as a returning guest were appreciated. We had the ‘luxury’ of our luggage being taken to our room for us, but many guests are not offered this service , which should be automatic in a 5* hotel, and room facilities are not pointed out. Most guests have to find their own way. As previously stated, the sun-beds, their mattresses and the sun shades are of good quality. Guests are not permitted to ‘reserve’ sun-beds and exception was taken by many guests that if their belongings were not attended for more than 1 hour, then they would be removed. It is important to note here that there is a drinks and dining terrace bar adjacent to the pool area, and it would be virtually impossible to dine or have drinks in the permitted 1 hour. On one occasion my wife and I were actually gesticulated at by the ‘Lifeguard’ to return from the Terrace Bar to our sun-beds. It would be very difficult to find another hotel with the overall ambience of this one, from generally delightful staff to the complete peace and safety of this resort. Serious, serious, training and management issues are regularly discussed by guests which is so unfortunate, and certainly something we are not used to. It is with great sadness that my wife and I believe that we will not return next year.

Its time for La Quinta to invest in both the hotel and its staff and training, although some areas resembled and were run like times before (the pool bar and main bar and spa) the restaurant was at best average and at worst chaotic. Lack of staff and training very nearly sank the ship and if this is not taken in hand it will hit an iceberg. There are some very nice staff (the cleaners are amazing as are the pool bar girls) but the need training and leadership. For the money paid this was a disappointing return to La Quinta which was the jewel of Menorca , but sadly is now in need of refurbishment and management to rate its self as a 5 star establishment. Would I return after this disapointment, probably not and thats very sad after years of happy memories.
