I was lucky enough to find Hotel Abelay and happy I did. I stayed for 4 nights. Its an 8 minute walk from Plaza Espanya (the transportation hub) and located in a quiet section of Palma, as well as bring very reasonably priced.Taking the airport bus which stops at Plaza Espanya its an easy walk to the hotel. I was given a double room which also had a small balcony.The room and bathroom were spacious enough and very clean! Everyone on Reception were polite and friendly and especially Sergi who checked me in and helped me with info. He also helped me check in for my return flight when I could not do it from my mobile phone for some reason. He was very helpful and kind!There is a Mercadona supermarket just 3 minutes up from the hotel which I used daily! Only downside is that there is no fridge in the rooms which is something I missed as you want to have a cool drink at anytime etc among other things(especially in warmer weather). I solved that problem for myself by buying 1 kilo ice bags from Mercadona along with a cooler shopping bag. I would layer one on bottom fill with my drinks and snacks I wanted to keep cool and layer with another bag on top. I kept it in the shower cubicle and this kept intact overnight. I repeated the next day. Its a solution that worked for me! Of course the hotel has bottles of ice water to buy and a small restaurant with a menu of the day which I did not use..nor the breakfast for a fee. I would surely stay at Hotel Abelay again !

Great if you're looking for a budget hotel. Very clean, really nice, friendly staff, decent continental breakfast. Great if you're looking for a budget hotel. Very clean, really nice, friendly staff, decent continental breakfast. Fairly good facilities but no mini fridge or kettle & a good 25min walk to Palma Cathedral. Comfortable rooms, great shower & a separate TV room you can use, with a few toys for the kids. Great hotel just outside the centre about 10 mins walk until your in the centre anout 30 mins from the port area but a nice walk via the city centre. Reception staff really friendly. A supermarket on the road really handy for picking up bits like water for the room. Rooms are a good size with everything you need, a decent hairdryer in the bathroom which is a bonus. We had a little balcony which was really lovely. The hotel has a small terrace with a few sun loungers which is a nice place to chill. We left our baggage on the last day and collected it later which was really handy, a nice safe room available for this.

Let's start with the positives: room service is prompt and efficient, the room and bathroom are spotlessly clean, the shower is super-powerful, and WiFi connection is good. The neighbourhood is quiet, and the hotel shares a street with a Mercadona supermarket. Now, the neutral: this is a budget hotel, so be under no illusions that your room will be a place to relax; it's a bed, a small desk, a wall-mounted TV, and literally nothing else, not even a bedside lamp. It is the epitome of basic. Finally, the negatives: if I'd known how far this hotel is from the historic centre, I'd have booked elsewhere- it really is 'up a side street'. The reception staff couldn't give me any information about bus numbers, and brushed off my question by saying 'It's not worth taking the bus.' They sell the location as 'a 30-minute walk from the cathedral' but I inevitably ended up getting lost and wandering for miles- so here's what reception won't tell you: - The EMT bus service is a tap-on system, and the 12, 20 and 24 run up the Carrer 31 Deciembre and Alfons Magnanim, where the nearest stop to the hotel is Creu Roja. In particular, the city-bound 20 stops closest to the cathedral, at Placa Joan Carles. As Palma has no tram or metro, this kind of indispensable information is what reception staff really need to be well-versed in, for travellers with limited mobility. Finally, because of the lack of carpeting (standard in Spain), there is no soundproofing in the hotel, meaning that you can clearly hear footsteps, conversations, bodily functions, and intimate moments in neighbouring rooms. Reading previous reviews, this has been an ongoing issue for years, which the hotel has yet to resolve. Purely because of its location, I wouldn't stay here again, but if you're on a serious budget, want to avoid the tourist masses, and are relatively fit, it's one option. However, I'm sure there are a few better ones.
