“Location, Views and Staff are Excellent but Food Poor”

We are regular visitors to the Santa Lucia, this was the 4th time this year. We know what the positives are and what we think are the not so good. Let’s start with the positives. Excellent Location, views, live shows and staff are the main reason we go back. Special mention for Alex the entertainment lead he’s excellent along with Miguel in the dining room, Maria at the bar and Toni on the rooftop bar, in fairness all the staff are really good accept reception staff sometime but it really does depend on who you get as some are really helpful particularly the Scottish lady who has been there years. It’s also dependent on who you ask in reception to pay for an upgrade to a superior room rooftop use, avoid asking the manager. We had to wait 2 hours for a room, not a problem but a bus load of Tui holiday makers arrived 30 mins after us and were all given rooms as they checked in, not a good way to treat a regular customer. The hotel is clean and tidy and has quality fittings and furniture, visibly it’s a lovely hotel. Now the not so positives: Food is very hit and miss, I would say more miss than a hit. Quality is poor especially the meat and not always hot. Drinks aren’t great but passable and this token system they have now is just bizarre. It’s pot luck with the shower as sometimes you can get a room where it trickles out and is not usable and others times you get a room where it’s powerful. The sunbed situation needs sorting out as people queue from 6am to get towels on a bed and sometimes don’t use until the afternoon, doesn’t make sense to me why people do this, hotel needs to sort this out. You might ask why do we go back, it’s all the positives which outweigh the negatives as we eat out a lot as you are surrounded by great restaurants, bars, staff are great and the views are to die for. Yes we will be going back again.

Location excellent. Rooms small- it gets on your nerves eventually. The rooftop pool is locked and only available to superior rooms. The ground floor pool has a queue every morning at 730. The TUI rep offered to get us chairs to sit outside. Went to the beach every day. Reception very prefunct, rest of staff lovely. Saw a rat at dinner on the first night so wasn’t overjoyed at that. Some guy chased it off with a broom. Did tell TUI rep she just asked if I’d told the hotel. Food average to poor. Place clean despite seeing the rat. I wouldn’t go back. Bar area full of smokers and on a night (we only went once) everyone was absolutely plastered. Fifty quid for the safe for a week. Everything there has a charge. TUI forgot to pick people up for a transfer and you have to sit on a bus for hours to get there. I’d just go elsewhere
