Yes, guests at Hostal Residencia San Francisco have highlighted that: I am actually in the middle of a 5 day stay here, but wanted to leave some feedback as I do believe good service and value should be rewarded.
The Room
Spotlessly clean upon arrival, with great basics like a small fridge with plenty of room for the cold drinks, chocolate, and sandwich items I had bought a Eroski (supermarket, about 5 mins walk away). There is also a small microwave, which I have no need for, but if travelling on a budget then I am sure handy to heat up or cook the odd meal or two.
The bathroom with shower, is small yet functional. Just one spare outlet in the room, but ideally situated next to the bed right by a handy little shelf I could stick my phone or camera on.
It is warm, and I don't like feeling sticky so have been sleeping on top of my bed each night, but I am 99% sure the mattress is a memory foam one, as only where you sit or lie actually sinks a little with weight. I have slept beautifully here, as proven by my wrist gadget sleep app which shows longer deep sleep cycles than I was getting for the last 2 weeks at home in the UK.
The room door has a proper key (not those electronic credit card type keys) which is fine by me, I like knowing a solid lock is keeping me and my things safe.
Apparently every room here has a balcony, and I lucked out with mine... not only am I facing east, so later in the day after getting hot exploring Mallorca the sun isn't blasting me, but I can also see a little of the port of Portocolom from my vantage point which is lovely. I also have a view of the pool. Small features like an outside electrical outlet on the balcony are a lovely feature, so if I want to charge anything while sitting there I can. The Hostel also provides a couple of plates, glasses and cutlery to go along with the microwave and fridge.
Oh, the wifi provided free is excellent, this comes from someone who has 3 x different work emails syncing with my phone, as well as private ones, social media etc. I have logged into Netflix and Amazon Prime to watch films as I fall asleep and have had no buffering or speed issues whatsoever.
Breakfast
Breakfast here is simple yet delicious, cereals and milks, a variety of breads, butter and jams / preserves as well as my favourite... a selection of cold cut meats and cheese and sliced tomato. There is also fruit, including sliced melon daily.
The Staff
Paula is utterly wonderful, kind, helpful, funny and engaging. She works hard but always with a smile even when sweeping in the baking heat. Nothing seems too much trouble (not that I have been a demanding or troublesome guest mind you!), she has a wealth of local knowledge, and is helpful in coordinating things like taxis, shuttles, bike rental and so on.
Location
Literally 1-2 minutes walk to the port of Portocolom, depending on your stride length! Perfectly situated to head one direction to head closer to the restaurants and bars by the main part of the port, or head in the other direction to walk about 8 minutes to the main beach of Cala Marcal.
Portocolom
It's a traditional fishing village now supported also with tourism, and although there are a few typically touristy souvenir shops, for the most part it is a wonderful and beautiful Mallorcan escape from every day life (for a foreigner like me, anyway). Miles away from places like Magaluf or Playa de Palma both literally and figuratively. If you are looking for a quiet getaway with some activities, a wonderful sailing school, boat rentalnoptions, a couple of great beaches, and some wonderful little restaurants, then Portocolom is highly recommended.
Overall
If I come to Portocolom again, I will definitely stay here, for the price the value cannot be beaten. If I wanted a spa hotel for 200 EUR/nt I would have booked one, but I simply wanted a quiet, clean, secure and peaceful stay, with a pool (pool is lovely too BTW!) where I could relax and explore Portocolom, and use as my base to explore Mallorca as a whole.
