We booked a trip to Menorca at short notice. We knew little about the island so weren’t sure where to stay and chose Son Tretze because it was small, adults only and not too far from the airport. We were delighted to find this gem of a hotel only 15 mins drive from the airport. (Driving is easy in Menorca, as is finding parking) It’s a traditional hotel; very pretty, quiet, comfortable and private. There was never any noise or sight of planes. Our hosts were so personable & lovely. The breakfasts were typical menorcan, bread, local meats, cheese and best of all fresh local pastries - delicious! Our hosts helped with great recommendations locally. The hotel is well placed for exploring the island. Son Tretze is set in a small untouristy town /village with a lovely range of bars, restaurants and a vineyard, all within all walking distance. All in all, Son Tretze was a perfect place to stay for a fantastic holiday.

“A Wonderful Rustic Retreat.”

It is what it is!! A basic semi rural guest house. The lady who owns it is quite simply fantastic she has a welcoming smile and great personality. It is what it is!! A basic semi rural guest house. The lady who owns it is quite simply fantastic she has a welcoming smile and great personality. Her daughter who helped prepare breakfast served on the terrace was also lovely. Its basic but fully functional, air conditioning in room was welcome. It has character and is well located, just a short walk to the local shops in Saint Lluis. It is not a tourist hot spot but you are 15 minutes from Mahon and 10 minutes from the resorts of Binibeca. If I had to be critical I would suggest that the owners invested in some new poolside furniture and jet washed the paved area around the small pool and terracing. It would make a pleasant spot look so much better.

“One night stopover”

We stayed just one night here as other places were full. It was clean, comfortable and well situated, also easy to find on outskirts of St. LLuis. Caterina made a lovely and generous breakfast, including tomatoes from her garden.

For us this was an ideal place. Not in a tourist location but on the edge of the small town of Sant Lluis. We were shown 2 rooms and chose room 8 with a large terrace overlooking the small car park and trees. We preferred this view more than the one we were shown on the ground floor where the terrace was surrounded by high walls and that felt claustrophobic. We were totally surprised, having booked online directly with the hotel, to find that the hotel was “room only”. Looking on the hotel’s own website, under “info”, it states “Bed and Breakfast Menorca Hotel Son Tretze”, and again, under “rooms”, it states: “Urban Hotel B&B in Menorca” (even at the time of writing this, three weeks later). So it was quite reasonable of us to expect breakfast!. Neither was it made clear upon booking that breakfast was not included from October onwards (as we were told on arrival). It made the hotel less “value for money” but it’s just a small disappointment because the hotel and pool were lovely and it was in a quiet location. The owners were helpful with ideas of unusual places to visit, e.g. the stone quarry. Our room was spacious with plenty of wardrobe space, hangers and several drawers. En-suite shower and bathroom was fine. Both were kept very clean on a daily basis. We were pleased to find that the town of Sant Lluis had a bakery/coffee shop within 10 minutes’ walk and a number of bars and restaurants also nearby. There was a large supermarket about 5 minutes’ drive away although there was also a small supermarket in the town. As we had a fridge in our room, we could stock up for breakfast. We would recommend hiring a car to get a full island experience (we hired through the hotel – more expensive than some, but reassuringly all damage costs were included in the package). Our only issue was, despite advising them of the flight details and being told the agent would be waiting for us in the arrivals hall, we had to phone and waited 20-30 minutes before the agent arrived. However, if you are staying for just a few nights, the airport is not far by taxi and, for walkers, there are several good hikes starting from the town towards the coast. Additionally there is a good bus service serving the island’s main town (Mahon) and the coast.
