The combination of comfort, ambiance and one of the prettiest fishing villages ever, may make the Katrapona the best place I’ve ever stayed. The rooms are large with exposed stone walls and nicely appointed. We had a corner room that had a balcony overlooking the harbor and a window overlooking the beach. You are in the center of the old town—numerous restaurants nearby including an excellent one downstairs. There is ample free parking at the port that is less than a hundred meters— as the crow flies. A little farther on foot, but not difficult for bringing the luggage. Parking is free except for the three months of summer. All in all, Getaria and the Katrapona are worth a detour on your trip. We will be back.

It's wonderful what someone can do with an old, stone fish factory! Our room had stone walls, a very modern bathroom and big double window/doors (one with a small balcony) overlooking the beach on one side and the harbor on the other. The mattress was great, reading lights were adequate and there was a nice desk. A very pleasant room on the main floor, right off the lobby and eating area but there was little noise from those areas. Breakfast was very nice with three different breads from which to choose, sweet cakes or tortes, hardboiled eggs, ham, chorizo, cheeses, juices, yogurt and lots of fruits. And, of course, juices and coffee. The location, high above the beach and harbor (with views to the open ocean and, to the north, the lovely coast, was very scenic and it was a short half-block to the street with all most of the restaurants. It was very interesting watching the big fishing vessels arrive and depart. Finally, the two women who run the place, one of whom is the owner, were just wonderful. They were very friendly, helpful and patient. Nothing was too much trouble. If you are driving, be certain ahead of time of your directions to the hotel. You cannot park at (or even near) the hotel, but you can park very briefly right on the doorstep on Aldamar Kalea. Getting there is a bit of an adventure (fold in your side mirrors). There is hourly parking along the waterfront and in a big lot below the hotel. In the upper parts of the city parking is free and, at most, a ten minute walk. Ask for guidance at the desk. It's a climb to the upper city but there are a series of escalators (yes, outdoor escalators) to take you to the very top. P.S. - don't miss the museum dedicated to local boy, the great fashion designor Balenciaga. Even if you don't much care about fashion, the museum is fantastic architecture.)

“Estancia muy bien”

Very nice hotel in the old centre of Getaria with harbour view. Very nice hostess, homemade cakes and excellent yoghurt for breakfast. Nice room, good sleep, knowledge of the surrounding area, good English

Very friendly, very helpful and kind reception staff. Beautiful location with views across the harbour. The room was small but quite nice, the bed wasn’t all that comfortable. The only real gripe - our room was pretty much above the sea front pub that is open all day and closes around 11PM - it wasn’t possible to have the balcony doors open to fully enjoy the experience without having to endure the loud reveling of the many drinkers. We’d stay again but would insist on another room and would limit the stay to a maximum of 2 nights.
