Quiet hotel in a beautiful location with views of the black sand beach and the koi pond in reception. The rooms are reasonable sized for a couple or some light entertaining if you come with friends. Hotel and the rooms are clean and the rain head shower is a treat. For the Brits and Irish there are tea/coffee making facilities in room. The attached mini market has an array of drinks, wine, water alongside basic needs. For us, mainly used for buying water and the odd pack of crisps. El Medano is within a 10-15 minute walk if you feel the need to venture into town or need something more specialised like a pharmacy. Hotel staff are friendly, helpful and speak the advertised languages. For the full board rate I feel I got what I paid for. Food was varied albeit following a pattern of meat braised in a sauce of some kind. I always left the buffet too full and neither lunch nor dinner never felt like a repeat menu. Themed nights included Asian, Mexican and Canerian. The Asian and (Tex-)Mexican nights are more aligned to the versions of these cuisines I have experienced in Latin American countries so do not expect chicken balls with curry or egg fried rice. However, all themed nights were enjoyable, tasty and broke up the week. Don’t skip the local treats of giofio ice cream (add chocolate and tastes like a malteser) or the live cooking stations. Only nitpick is the ladling of food in the buffet can be hit and miss. Hot food is always labelled in English, Spanish and German but the cold cuts/salads and deserts islands are not always labeled. This was only an issue as one of my party was allergic to orange and has a sweet tooth. Night time entertainment seemed non-offensive and reasonable but not my “cup of tea” on this particular trip. But I give a shout out to the saxophonist and the pianist who played two of the nights.

The location of the hotel is great! The atmosphere is fabulous as it’s peaceful and quiet. The rooms are lovely, although instead of a lounge area, I’d rather have two double beds instead of twin beds for adults. The spa facilities on site are also decent and the pool area is kept well maintained with decent music and not too loud. The staff are friendly to. It’s lost stars for me on the food. Reviews was there was good variety, however depends on your definition of variety. The breakfast was the same every morning. The yoghurts were runny and no offer of a nice thick plain yoghurt. The juices were concentrated from the machine, so no taste and not much variety to fresh fruit either. Crepes were tiny and if you’re not a Nutella or honey person, nothing much to go with it 😢. If you’re looking for yummy fresh fruit, yummy fresh pastries it’s not here. The dinners were bland and I’ve missed my veg as the vegetables looked so unappetising. The pasta sauces were super thin and most food needed salt as bland in taste barring the mango chicken and bbq ribs. They had prawns one evening, but no tartare sauce. Also turkey with apple sauce is a no no… if you love good tasty food, you’ll be disappointed as I was.
