“Eurocamps”

I visted with my my family and stayed in a 3 bed comfort caravan booked via eurocamps. The caravan was situated at the top of the site which was really really steep and long walk. This would be really difficult with people with mobility issues. The caravan was smaller than expected. There was a … more

As we landed early in the morning, we decided to spend some time exploring Girona before heading to the Eurocamp, as I'd read that check-in wasn't until 4pm. We received a text from Ed at Eurocamp asking for our ETA, so it's possible we could have checked in earlier – definitely worth asking if you're in the same situation. We caught the bus from the airport into Girona city centre, dropped off our suitcase and any bags we didn't need at Lock&Roll (around €18), and then wandered around Girona looking for lunch and ice cream. As it was a Sunday, many vegan-friendly lunch spots were closed, so it's worth planning ahead. We ended up at a nice café with a couple of vegan options, but the highlight was stumbling across a fully vegan ice cream shop – worth a visit to Girona on its own! I wish we'd had more time and energy to explore, but we'd been up since 3am with the kids, so we eventually made our way to Camping Tucan. There isn't a direct bus from Girona to the campsite, so your options are: • Bus to Lloret de Mar, then a local bus to the campsite (or a 30-minute walk) • Taxi As we were travelling on a budget, we chose the bus. On Sundays they seemed to run roughly hourly. The ticket machines at the bus station weren't working, but we were able to pay on the bus (cash only), which cost around €30 for the four of us (our youngest travelled free). We then caught the local bus and got off at the Papalus stop, right outside the DIA supermarket. From there it's only a few minutes' walk to the campsite. Arrival & Check-In The lady at reception was friendly and welcoming. We'd printed our booking confirmation voucher, and check-in went smoothly. We were then greeted by the famous Ed, who completely lived up to the reputation we'd heard about! He was fantastic with our children, loaded our luggage onto the golf buggy, and took the kids up to our accommodation while my husband and I followed behind. The Eurocamp accommodation is situated up a hill, but it's on a paved road with a pedestrian walkway and was perfectly manageable for us. Ed showed us around the accommodation and made us feel confident that if we needed anything during our stay, help would be nearby. Accommodation We booked a Classic holiday home, which was basic but clean and exactly what we needed. It included: • Plenty of storage • Air conditioning • Fridge/freezer • Cooking equipment and utensils A small starter pack was provided, which included: • One toilet roll • Bin bag • Sponge • Mini washing-up liquid • Mini all-purpose cleaner Packing Tips for First-Time Eurocamp Guests I'd recommend bringing or buying: • Extra toilet roll • Matches (for the gas oven) • Foil or sandwich bags for packed lunches • Hand wash • Tea towel • Cooking essentials such as oil, salt, and seasonings The washing-up liquid provided lasted us most of the week. We paid extra for bedding and bath towels, which was worth it for us. Our area was quiet, and we slept really well. The bedroom windows had both blackout blinds and insect screens. Laundry facilities were nearby and cost €7 per wash, including detergent (cash only). There was also mini golf, a play park, and sports areas on site, although we didn't get around to using them. Pool & Entertainment As we arrived late on Sunday, we headed straight to the pool for an afternoon swim. It was fairly busy on arrival day, but very quiet throughout most of the week, especially Monday to Wednesday. It became a little busier on Thursday and Friday, and noticeably busier again on Saturday. Despite this, we never struggled to find sun loungers or a parasol. The pool itself was excellent, and towards the end of the week the children's entertainment programme started earlier than expected, which was a pleasant surprise as I'd read it didn't begin until July. Activities included: • Water polo • Aqua dancing • Face painting • Mini disco The entertainment team were wonderful with the children and really helped make the holiday feel special. Food & Vegan Options I can't comment much on the on-site bar and restaurant as there didn't appear to be many vegan options available. We mainly cooked for ourselves, although we did enjoy the occasional bowl of chips. The staff were always friendly when ordering drinks. Supermarkets There is a DIA supermarket a short walk from the campsite, but directly opposite is a CONSUM supermarket, which we found larger and better stocked. Vegan Finds at CONSUM For any fellow vegans, CONSUM had a surprisingly good vegan range, including: • Heura sandwich slices • Burgers • Sausages • Cutlets • Violife cheese • Soya yoghurts • Vegan ice cream sandwiches The focaccias were vegan too. We struggled to find plant-based Nutella and vegan sweet treats until we visited Esclat supermarket. Esclat Esclat is huge and about a 30-minute walk away. We found: • Plant-based Nutella • Additional vegan ice cream options • More chilled and frozen vegan products • Avocado and cucumber maki There's also a Lidl nearby with additional vegan options. If you don't mind the walk (or have a car), I'd definitely recommend Esclat over the smaller supermarkets. A bonus for families: they have Cozy Coupe shopping trolleys and a small free soft play area, which our children loved. Gran Bizarre I also wanted to mention Gran Bizarre, the shop next to DIA. It's one of those places that seems to sell absolutely everything. We didn't have much time to browse (parents of young children will understand!), but we picked up snorkelling goggles and water shoes for the kids. There were also plenty of beach toys and pool accessories available. Beach Days We spent two days at the beach: • Santa Cristina • Fenals Santa Cristina This was our favourite beach. If you're walking with children or a buggy, stick to the road rather than taking the hill path, unless you fancy an unexpected hike! The views are beautiful, but the route is quite steep. Using the road, the walk takes around 30 minutes. We rented two sun loungers and a parasol for €30, available until 6pm. The beach is made up of very fine shingle rather than sand, and it gets extremely hot underfoot, so water shoes are highly recommended. Bring snorkelling gear if you can. We loved taking turns exploring underwater and seeing what fish we could spot. The atmosphere felt relaxed and family-friendly, surrounded by beautiful greenery. There was also a beach bar where we could buy cold drinks. Fenals Fenals is closer, around a 20-minute walk from the campsite. It's much larger and offers more facilities, including: • Bars and restaurants • Shops • Water sports It's still a lovely beach and great for snorkelling, but we personally preferred the scenery and atmosphere at Santa Cristina. Sun loungers and parasols were the same price as Santa Cristina (€30). Day Trips We originally planned a day trip to Barcelona, but in the end our children were so happy at the pool that we decided against it. When researching transport, we found that buses could be booked online through Busbud or directly with Moventis from the Fenals bus stop. Prices were roughly €50–€70 for our family of four. Departure Our return flight wasn't until 10pm, despite check-out being at 10am. Ed explained that we could leave our luggage in a secure storage room near the pool and continue using the facilities for the day. However, the day before departure, he let us know that nobody was checking into our accommodation until the following day, so we could keep the holiday home until we left. This made our final day much more relaxed and was a really appreciated gesture. We left Camping Tucan at around 5:30pm and walked the 30 minutes to Lloret de Mar Bus Station, stopping at Burger King for dinner on the way. Vegans can order the vegan chicken burger without mayo. We had pre-booked the airport bus with Sagalés (via FlixBus), which took around 35 minutes to Girona Airport and cost €48 for all four of us. Overall Thoughts Overall, we had a fantastic week at Camping Tucan. As a first-time Eurocamp family travelling with two young children, we found the site clean, friendly, and well located for both the beaches and local amenities. The pool was excellent, the staff were welcoming, and Ed in particular went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. As a vegan family, we never struggled to find suitable options in the supermarkets (although would have liked more easy to find sweet treats but I think we’ve been spoilt by previous holidays in Italy!). We would happily return and would definitely recommend Camping Tucan to other families looking for an affordable holiday on the Costa Brava..
