“Lovely hotel. ”

Lovely hotel, perfect location.right opposite the beach, walking distance to shops,bars and restaurants. Clean ,air con, good WiFi, staff absolutely amazing. So helpful and friendly. Breakfast good too and lots of it. Definitely come back.

Hotel Vela is on the seafront at Roses, a pleasant, medium-sized town close to the French border. All the rooms have sea views and balconies large enough for 2 chairs and a small table. The whole hotel is scrupulously clean. Reception welcoming a helpful with some command of French and English. Breakfast is copious and with good, fresh croissants, chocolatines and fruit as well as an array of coffees, teas and tisanes. There is a restaurant (separate) on the ground floor. They have a locked storeroom for bicycles. The rooms are comfortable, spacious, with good beds and bathroom, hair dryer, tv, air conditioning. The many bars and restaurants are literally on the doorstep and the shopping centre starts just metres away. Very pleasant walking along a wide tree-fringed promenade. The beach beyond is flat and sandy and seems to be cleaned every morning. If you want charming, rocky coves, it is not far to walk to the east.

The room was very ascetic, but clean and comfortable enough for one night's stay. There was literally nothing extra in the room, no decorations, not even a trash can. Despite being very careful about it, the shower spilled water all over the bathroom floor, and there was no drainage for it, so we had to mop it off with our towels.

This is a 2 star hotel that is close to 3 stars because of its location, breakfast, service and cleaness. The beach is just over the street. Parking may be a bit difficult to find but we found it twice on the same street. Every street parallel to the hotel, at the back, is completely free so instead of trying to find parking on other places I recommend to check behind the hotel directly. If you wish to receive a room with a view (and balcony) you will probably have to pay extra. We booked through Hotels.com and received a view to a patio. We did however not mind since we wasent on the hotelroom that much. The rooms are not soundproof so if you have the room to the street you will probably hear a lot of noise so bring with you earpluggs if you are sensitive. You will hear people walking/talking outside the door. There is only a safe in a few room but it is probably possible to use the hotels safe, ask in that case. There is an elevator and AC. The breakfast is great with a great coffemachine, juice, yoghurt, cold cuts, cerials and more. No water however. The only thing I found strange was the placement of the TV. High up almost in the roof. We dont usually watch TV on the vacation but having a TV on the hotelroom in that hight is just strange.
