There must be something special about Tossa de Mar and this hotel in particular to bring me back for a fourth visit! Although a large hotel there always seems to be so much space. The excellent food choices for breafast and dinner have got to be one of the primary reasons for my return visits. Friendly helpful staff, and good evening entertainment too. It's location is ideal for a stroll to the seafront and castle, and as an older solo traveller I always feel safe in the streets at night!

We stayed at the Golden Bahia hotel from the 9th - 16th of May as a family of 4 (2 year old & 8 month old). This was our first trip abroad with our 8 month old and we had a wonderful time for the week despite the weather not always being the best. We booked our holiday through Tui and Spike the rep was based at the hotel and super helpful from the moment getting off the coach to the moment leaving. Hotel: The hotel is very clean and welcoming. There is a security staff member at the door, so it felt very safe. There is a large lobby area with 3 lifts going to the rooms, roof terrace and spa/ indoor pool. They were big enough for 2 travel prams which was good, as its a very family friendly hotel. There is a large lobby bar area which had lots of seating, bar and snack bar. There were some books to borrow too and some evenings there was gentle entertainment focussed at adults (e.g. pianist). The reception/ lobby bar area and reataurant have been recently renovated, so are very lovely. I would say the hallways and entertainment bar (where the evening shows are) are slightly more dated, but I would imagine they will be upgraded in time to match the rest. It was a big hotel but not overwhelming in size. There were lots of guests, but it never felt crowded which was great. Check in/ check out: We had an early flight and arrived to the hotel at about 11. We wasn't expecting the room to be ready as check out is at 11, but we only had to wait about an hour which was great. We were given our all inclusive wrist bands straight away and went to the snack bar whilst we waited. We stored our suitcases in the luggage store area too. We had a 10:35 flight on the way home, but they opened the restaurant for breakfast at 6:15 so we had a chance to use that before leaving. There is a tourist tax to pay on leaving, they take cash or card. Rooms: We stayed in a family suite on level 2 of the hotel. It had 2 comfortable double beds, a separate small living space and a hot tub on the balcony. A travel cot was already in the room for our baby when we got there. The bathroom was large, equipped with a really lovely walk in shower and two sinks. The room was very modern. The only slight issue we had was the hot tub from the balcony above dripped onto our balcony which made it quite wet to walk on in certain parts. But we weren't on the balcony enough for it to be an issue. Hot tub was good to use in the evenings as it meant we could stay in the room and our kids could sleep in the bed rather than in the pram, although I would say it needs a step to get up and into it. The suite was a good size for us, especially as we wanted a separate area for our toddler when our baby was having a nap/ it was bedtime for them. Food: We were all inclusive and all main meals were served in the restaurant. The restaurant was lovely and spacious. We never had an issue getting a seat and could always being the pram in and up to the table. They had plenty of high chairs, as well as booster seats for toddlers which was fantastic. Staff were very good at remembering us and getting the chairs when we arrived without having to keep telling them. The food range was really good. My husband is vegetarian and said this is the first hotel we have been too where the vegetarian options were really good. They had an entire vegetarian section which was great as previous places we have been to have sometimes been challenging to tell what is vegetarian or not. Or have been quite samey/ basic. They had meat free sausages, bacon and patties for breakfast a selection of different dishes every lunch and dinner which was great for him. Breakfast had hot food e.g. sausages, bacon, eggs, beans and a live omelette station. There was also porridge abd plenty of toast stations with different type of bread. There was also continental breakfast, yoghurts, fruit, cereals and nuts/ seeds to top it all with. Lunch had a range of cooked meats and fish, live cooking stations for meat/ fish & pasta. There was the vegetarian section and also a kids buffet which had your more basic chips, pasta, vegetables, nuggets etc. There was also a large salad selection and soup. A cheese board selection, fruit and dessert. Dinner was the same set up as lunch, but the main dishes, salads and desserts changed each meal time/ day. As with all buffets, some bits were a bit lukewarm. But there are microwaves to heat it up if needed. Drinks for breakfast were help yourself, with hot drinks machines, juices and smoothies. For lunch & dinner water is already on the tables and drinks are served to you by staff. I think this was the only slightly confusing part as it wasnt clear what drinks were included in the all inclusive and what wasn't. For example a glass of house rose at dinner would incur a surchage but at the bar would have been free. The only other thing I would say is, bring a baby plate/ bowl and cutlery as there are none. Pools: There are several pools at this hotel. Due to being with two small children we mainly went to the splash pool with the pirate ship slide and the indoor pool. The pools outside were cold, but it was also only about 20 degrees when we were there. Once you were in it wasnt too bad. Our toddler loved the slides. I imagine in warmer months the outdoor pools heat up a lot more in the sun. The indoor pool is heated so that was great when the weather was a bit colder. We spent a lot of time in here as it was good for our baby. We didnt go to the roof terrace, but a few people we spoke to said it was nice up there. You can hire pool towels if you need to, we just took our own. There is a rule on not reserving sun beds early in the morning which was followed. There were plenty of sunbeds and never an issue getting one, whatever time of day we wanted. Entertainment: The entertainment at this hotel was great and it all comes down to how excellent the entertainment team was. There are things running all day for adults and children. Notice boards in reception and the lifts let you know the schedule for the day. Our toddler was too young for the kids club, but my husband and I gave the archery, rifle shooting and cross bow a go after breakfast in the morning whilst our children watched us. If you won the game you got a diploma which was presented to you at the mini disco in the evening which was fun. Our toddlers favourite thing by far were the dinosaur mascots Goldie and Goldina and the mini disco. Every evening at 20:15 she dragged us into that entertainment room. There was always either face painting or balloon modelling before the mini disco started at 8:45. All of the kids absolutely loved it and the entertainers were excellent at getting them involved, running around the room, getting on stage and getting the adults to make the train tunnel at the end too. We want to also give a massive shout out to Davide. Our toddler was absolutely besotted with him and every time she saw him around the hotel would wave. He played with her before the mini disco would start and always gave time to her even when he was having his breakfast & lunch. She has non stop spoken about him since being home. Outside the hotel: The hotel is in a great location in Tossa de Mar. The main part of town and beach is about a 5-10 min walk away. There are lots of restaurants, cafes and shops. The castle is beautiful (although not entirely pram friendly) and theres lots of pretty streets to walk along. There's a large supermarket around the corner from the hotel by the bus garage which has a tiny soft play in it, which was great when it rained. There are also a couple of play parks which is great for kids. There is a market on Thursdays, it starts near enough outside the hotel. But it is mostly clothes, towels etc. Top tips: - Bring a plate & cutlery for babies

Stayed for 7 nights with family and friends. Highly recomend to go all inclusive, snack bars and drinks are great and the restaurant food is fantastic with great staff. Plenty of sunbeds and places around the hotel to relax. Short 15 minute walk into small town and beach. Spike the tui rep is fantastic and we booked the trip to Barcelona with him highly recommended. Rooms cleaned every day hotel is spotless. Better entertainment acts at night is needed, we had a great time and if your thinking of going definitely try it.
